Montreal is a foodie paradise, and if you’re vegan (or just dairy-free), you’ll be happy to know the city has plenty of frozen treats for you too. From classic sorbets to wildly creative soft-serves, the vegan ice cream scene in Montreal is thriving.

Since I’m lactose intolerant, I’ve been on the hunt for the best vegan ice cream in Montreal. This guide is the result of my very “serious” research (all in the name of science, of course). And because I love exploring neighbourhoods, I’ll also share what to do nearby once you grab your cone.

Havre-aux-Glaces
This iconic Montreal ice cream parlour has four locations, including one right in the heart of Place des Arts—perfect for grabbing a scoop during festival season. You’ll also find them at Promenade Fleury, Jean-Talon market, and Atwater Market.
Havre-aux-Glaces changes its flavours seasonally and uses fresh, local ingredients. At Jean-Talon, they’re open year-round with 12 vegan sorbets made from real fruit. If you’re lucky, try their vegan chocolate and pair it with a fruity sorbet for the ultimate combo.
Ca Lem
Ca Lem is a Montreal favourite, especially if you like unique, Asian-inspired ice cream flavours. Their coconut-milk base makes for rich, creamy vegan options. Expect fun combinations like pandan, coconut ash black sesame, Vietnamese coffee, and rosewater pistachio.
Their soft-serve creations change weekly, and toppings are always playful. You’ll find Ca Lem in several neighbourhoods: Lachine Canal, Plateau, Old Montreal, Marché Atwater, Côte-des-Neiges, and NDG.
Le Blueboy
For something colourful and over-the-top, head to Le Blueboy. They serve almond- and coconut-based vegan ice cream and describe themselves as “Homemade Latine Ice Cream Dessert.” You’ll find fun toppings like churros, pretzels, candies, and fruit bowls. Don’t miss their watermelon-basil sorbet served inside half a watermelon—perfect cooling off on a summer day. Their plantain sundae is also a hit.
Le Blueboy is located on Mont-Royal Avenue, which becomes pedestrian-only in the summer—perfect for strolling, shopping, and snacking. Every ingredient is there for you to enjoy the quintessential Montreal street.
Swirl
If you’re after fully vegan ice cream store, Swirl is your spot. This soft-serve shop makes everything from scratch using coconut milk. Their chocolate is a personal favourite, but flavours rotate seasonally with Asian-inspired touches. Think coconut-mango or Madagascan vanilla.
Located in Little Portugal, it’s a great excuse to wander the neighbourhood’s murals and street art. Grab your cone after enjoying some local Portuguese food—it’s the perfect pairing.
Bilboquet
Bilboquet is one of Montreal’s oldest and most beloved ice cream shops, open since 1983. They now offer vegan sorbets and almond milk-based flavours alongside their traditional lineup.
With 4 locations across the city, you’re never far from a scoop. The prettiest one is located in Outremont.
Iconoglace
This is hands-down my favourite vegan ice cream shop in Montreal. Iconoglace offers everything in a vegan version: soft serve, chocolate dips, sundaes, affogatos, Oreo and cookie dough swirl, kombucha floats, unicorn soft serve—you name it. Even the slush is made with maple water.
Their weekly specials are always wild. One week it might be a sundae with Portuguese Nata, the next a “Cream Burger.” Last time I went, I had a chocolate and passion fruit swirl, and I’m still dreaming about it.
They’ve got two locations: Rosemont and Laurier in Mile End.
Mlle Catherine
Perfectly located in Place Jacques-Cartier, next to the cute souvenir shop Bonjour Montreal, Mlle Catherine is a cozy spot for ice cream, affogatos, and crêpes. Their vegan selection is small but mighty—the mango sorbet is a must-try, and their virgin Piña Colada made with pineapple sorbet is the ultimate summer refresher. This cozy shop is renowned for its artisanal approach, using fresh, high-quality ingredients to create a memorable dessert experience for all.
It’s the perfect stop after wandering Old Montreal’s cobblestone streets.
Kem CoBa
Kem Coba, located in the Mile End neighbourhood of Montreal, is famous for its vibrant and innovative ice cream flavours, including several delicious vegan options. Their soft-serve flavours change weekly, they have flavours like rosewater, raspberry/lychee and Orange/coconut. They are an Asian-inspired ice cream shop.
They are located next to the delicious gnocchi from Drogheria Fine and to the Fairmount Bagels. So after you finish eating in these stapled Montreal eateries go for this iconic ice cream. They have a line that is around 20 to 30 minutes wait. After that, you can stroll around this hipster neighbourhood.
La Cave à Manger
Not only does La Cave à Manger serve some of the best croissants in Montreal, but they also offer a sorbet you can pair with Prosecco. Talk about summer goals.
Located inside Bonsecours Market, next to Brewsky (an amazing brewery), this spot also serves soft serve on a croissant. Bring your Lactaid pills—it’s worth it.
Crèmerie ‑18°
Tucked in a small corner of Griffintown, Crèmerie -18° is the new option. They opened in 2025, and it is definitely worth the detour—especially if you’re craving vegan soft serve with a creative twist. They keep it simple with just two base options—vanilla (regular and vegan)—but make up for it with plenty of fun toppings to choose from. You’ll find fruity flavours like pineapple or haskap, along with chocolate, coffee crisp, and more. The shop’s logo, a cute little bear, adds to the charm and makes this spot as adorable as it is delicious.
Dalla Rose
This used to be one of my favourite spots, but they’ve recently reduced their vegan options. This charming little ice cream shop in Saint-Henri usually has a couple of vegan or sorbet flavours on rotation. Their regular ice creams often feature adventurous seasonal options—think sweet corn or even BBQ! You can enjoy your scoop in a cup or go all in with one of their vegan ice cream sandwiches—yes, they even make vegan cookies! It’s a small space, so there’s often a line on hot summer days, but trust me—it’s totally worth the wait.
