Vancouver, BC

by Karen from Forever Karen

Vancouver is a spectacular place to visit any time of year, especially in April when 40,000 cherry blossom trees across the city burst into bloom! For Vancouverites, it’s a sign that winter is ending and spring is just around the corner.

While cherry blossom trees originated in Japan and are celebrated during the Sakura Festival, Japan gifted Vancouver’s first trees to honor Japanese Canadians who served in World War 1.

The Yoshino and Kanzan Cherry varieties dominate Vancouver’s landscape during this time, with the former typically in shades of white. Blooms last, on average, two weeks, and when one variety drops its petals, another begins its explosive color cycle.

Depending on the weather, trees can bloom as early as the end of March, but you can see blossoms somewhere in the city until late April or the first week of May.

While most people think cherry blossoms only come in shades of pink, in Vancouver, you can find white and dark red shades too. You can attend the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival (a three-week event) to learn more about the trees and join the Big Picnic in Queen Elizabeth Park.

Alternatively, you can spend a weekend in Vancouver checking out the blooms at these locations:

  1. Stanley Park – at the Japanese War Memorial.

  2. David Lam Park.

  3. Austrey Avenue and McHardy Street – this area provides a canopy of blossoms over the street.

  4. West 22nd Avenue and Arbutus Street – these trees bloom later in April.

  5. Queen Elizabeth Park.

  6. VanDusen Gardens.

When visiting Vancouver, you can expect temperatures to reach 13°C/55°F, and rain is common in springtime. While the rain can disrupt these beautiful blossoms, there’s plenty to do in the city when it rains.

Other popular Vancouver attractions include Stanley Park, the Capilano Suspension Bridge, the Gastown Steam Clock, Granville Island, and Grouse Mountain.

Banff, AB

By Mayuri from Canada Crossroads

Banff in April is an ideal time to get outdoors and explore the majestic scenery of this breathtaking part of Canada. It is considered springtime in the Canadian Rockies - the weather is getting warmer during the day, and it is possible to enjoy the outdoors.

April is a transition month, so you can expect some skiing in the early weeks of the month. Sunshine Ski Resort and Lake Louise Ski Resort are still open this time.

You can go on hikes and easy walks by various lakesides in Banff National Park. Plan to visit Vermillion Lakes, Two Jack Lake, and of course the stunning Lake Louise. In April, lakes will be slightly frozen - you can only see the blue-turquoise waters in the summer months. But trails are still accessible but expect some snow on the ground, and slippery surfaces here and there.

One of the benefits of visiting Banff in April is beating the summer crowds and saving money on accommodation. April is off-season, so you can surely enjoy a relaxed time inside the national park, at restaurants, trails, and roads! In fact, this is the best time to embark on a Canadian Rockies road trip, and check out wildlife as well!

Other than natural landmarks, attractions such as Banff Gondola, Fairmont Banff Springs, Cave, Basin Heritage Site, etc, are open for visitors. You can also hit the Banff hot springs, cafes, and popular distilleries and restaurants.

United States

Key West, Fl

By Victoria of Florida Trippers

Easily one of the best April holiday destinations of them all, Key West, Florida is a vibrant beach town that is filled with great weather and epic events that you will love.

Plus, the weather is quite mild with daily highs of 82 F (28 C), daily lows of 73 F (23 C), and only three days of rain all month long. You also won’t have to worry about hurricane season and the crowds of summer that haven’t arrived yet. Therefore, you can enjoy slightly cheaper prices on hotels and accommodations.

That being said, Key West is a popular party destination among Spring Breakers who want to party at the bars on Duval Street. So, if that’s not really your style then be sure to stay away during that time of year.  In fact, Smathers Beach is a hot spot for locals and spring break enthusiasts alike who want to party the day away with a cooler. So, if you’re looking for a quieter place to do a bit of sunbathing then check out Fort Zachary Taylor State Park instead.

You’ll also want to double-check and make sure that various local restaurants and businesses are actually open since many places do close seasonally and just start opening up again in April.

However, if you do decide that April is the best time to visit the Florida Keys then you can always try fishing for Mahi Mahi, Tarpon, Wahoo, Blue Marlin, and Yellowtail since all of these varieties of fish can be found in the local waters here.

Next, grab a pair of running shoes and sign up for the 7-mile Bridge Run that goes from Knights Key to Pigeon Key before enjoying all the local Conch Republic Independence Celebration has to offer.  You can also attend the free Florida Keys Ocean Festival and Waterfront Craft Show before checking out the Key West Artisan Market.

It’s a fantastic place to shop for produce, baked goods, and craft beer since local vendors gather at The Restaurant Store and Cole’s Peace Bakery on the first Sunday of the month.

St. Petersburg, Florida is the perfect vacation destination in April! This Florida city is a tropical paradise, and with perfect temperatures in the springtime, it's a great time to take a beach holiday.

In April, St. Petersburg boasts an average temperature of around 78F, perfect for spending a day outside soaking up the sun. The humidity is comfortable and it's never too hot for an enjoyable day on the beach. The crystal-clear blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico provide the perfect temperature for swimming, snorkelling, and kayaking-- or even a boat day!

Orlando, FL

by Candice from Exploring the Gulf

Orlando is one of the few cities in the United States that offers a great balance of pulsating city energy and serene relaxation. Whether you’re building an itinerary to hit all the highlights or just want to enjoy some sunshine, Orlando is a great April holiday destination.

April is one of the most comfortable months to visit Orlando, weatherwise. Spring temperatures in this month average around 84° (high) and 63° (low). By this time, any Florida winter chill has been shaken and the radiance of spring is well on its way.

Spring is a wonderful time to reconnect with nature. Florida offers stunning beaches, but a less well-known feature of the state is their gardens. There are several gardens in the Orlando area to choose from, but the Harry P. Leu Gardens and Orlando Wetlands Park top the list. A visit to these lush and vibrant spaces in April would be a great way to escape the fast pace of the city. Or you can make another great escape with a day trip from Orlando to Clearwater. You won’t be disappointed!

Most visitors know Orlando is virtually the theme park capital of the world. Disney World, Universal Studios and SeaWorld are all conveniently located in the Orlando area. April is an amazing time to see the best of what these parks have to offer. The weather will be warm, but not unbearably hot and humid like it will be in the summer,  just a few months down the road. Spring is also an amazing time to visit parks before everyone gets out of school and the rush of the summer crowds begins.

An April holiday in Orlando would be tough to beat. With sunshine, beaches, gardens and fun around every corner, what are you waiting for?

Zion National Park, Ut

Contributed By David & Intan From The World Travel Guy

One of the best places to visit in April would have to be Zion National Park in southern Utah. This became Utah's first national park in 1919, and it's full of amazing scenery. Some of the best Zion hikes include famous trails like Angels Landing and The Narrows, which are as beautiful as they are exciting! Angels Landing, in particular, is rated as one of the best hikes in the world.

Naturally, the scenery of Zion has also attracted tourist crowds, and it's now become one of the busiest national parks in the United States, with 5 million visitors in 2021. The summer weather in months like July and August can also be extremely hot for hiking, with temperatures as high as 90 Fahrenheit (32 C)!

However, the good news is that April is one of the best months to visit Zion National Park because the weather is still cooler and the park is not nearly as crowded compared to the peak months. Daily temperatures in April hover around a very pleasant 60 degrees Fahrenheit (15 C), which is perfect for hiking!

Daylight hours in April are still roughly similar to the summer, too, so you have plenty of time for activities each day. In fact, Zion has a very consistently dry and sunny climate all year, so you almost never have to worry about getting rained out.

Aside from hiking, another top thing to see in the park is the Zion-Mount Carmel Highway and tunnel. It was completed in 1930, and you can use this highway to drive through some of the best areas of the park and enjoy stunning views on all sides without doing any hiking. Along the way, there are lots of great hikes, viewpoints, and pull-off spots as well!

Joshua Tree National Park, CA

by Monica from This Rare Earth

One of the best destinations to visit for a holiday in April is Joshua Tree National Park in Southern California. Because of the hot desert environment, summer can be too hot for strenuous outdoor activities in the park. Visiting Joshua Tree in April will offer cooler temperatures, making both hiking and camping much more comfortable!

Joshua Tree National Park is often described as otherworldly. It is the kind of place that you need to see to believe.  The alien-like terrain and odd plant life make this a fun place to explore.

The northern half of the park is home to the famous Joshua Tree – the famously wild yucca plant – as well as giant round boulders that are popular with climbers and photographers. Many of the park’s hiking trails are found in this half of the park. The southern half sits in a lower elevation, which is hotter and drier. This means that more cacti grow here and Joshua Trees become few and far between.

Within the park, visitors can explore the many exhibits and hiking trails. Check out well-known rock formations like Arch Rock and Skull Rock. Hike the Hall of Horrors for a narrow slot canyon. And, follow the trails to Barker Dam and the Lost Palms Oasis, which should be full due to recent spring rains.

April is also a great month to camp in the park. The evenings will still be pleasantly cool and the daytime temps will be warm and mild. Adventure activities like rock climbing and backcountry trekking are also best tackled in the spring. If you are lucky, you may even spot some bright yellow wildflowers blooming in April.

Joshua Tree is roughly 2.5 hours outside of Los Angeles.  It is a popular getaway for locals and visitors to California, and is well worth a visit!

Carlsbad, CA

Contributed by Kristin of Global Travel Escapades

Another wonderful place to visit during the month of April is the coastal town of Carlsbad in Southern California. During this time of the year, the city experiences average high temperatures of 65°F and average low temperatures of 51°F. These pleasant weather conditions, coupled with the fact that Carlsbad has all kinds of activities to offer visitors, make the city a lovely place for a getaway!

For example, one activity that's only available during the spring season is visiting the Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch. Here, visitors can wander around over 50 acres of stunningly beautiful flowers that are kept in neat color-coded rows and create a picture-perfect backdrop! In addition, there are all sorts of other activities and games available for kids, such as finding your way through a garden maze or going on a wagon ride around the field!

Meanwhile, those keen on spending a relaxing day at one of the many beaches will be happy to know that they can expect sunny days as there's minimal rain during April. Plus, the waters are starting to warm up for those interested in getting into the ocean. And for surfers, there's still a decent amount of winter swell, so it's ideal conditions for those looking to catch some waves.

Lastly, this coastal city is worth visiting in April because you can take a boat out and witness the whales as they migrate up the coast. Each year, there are thousands of whales traverse the California coast, passing right by Carlsbad.

All in all, if you're looking for a great place to visit in April, be sure to consider making your way to Carlsbad. You can expect beautiful weather conditions, fewer crowds, and all kinds of activities to keep everyone entertained!

Santa Barbara, ca

by Taylor from TAYTRUM TRAVELS

Santa Barbara is a gorgeous city that is nestled between the mountains and beach along the American Riviera. It is full of great restaurants, museums, and outdoor adventures. There are plenty of things to do in Santa Barbara to fill a weekend getaway or more.

Santa Barbara has a walkable downtown area along State Street, the main avenue. This is where the main buzz of restaurants and shopping happens. You could start a relaxing trip at Chase Palms Park where you’ll also find a popular biking and walking trail. It is a beachfront trail that passes by Stearns Wharf. If you head out on the boardwalk, you can watch the kayakers, boaters, pelicans, and more. The Museum of Art and of the historic Spanish Mission (founded in 1786) are also both popular activities for good reason.

Santa Barbara is a world-renowned wine region and the Funk Zone neighborhood has no shortage of tasting rooms. Try Pali Wine or the Santa Barbara Wine Collective. You could also follow the Urban Wine Trail, a suggested itinerary for wine tasting in Santa Barbara. If you prefer beer, head to Institution or Topa Topa. For food, other great restaurants nearby State Street are Zaytoon (Lebanese), Loquita (Spanish), Brophy Bros (American Seafood), La Playa Azul (Mexican), and Rare Society (American Steakhouse).

April is a great time to visit because there is a low chance of rain and temperatures are very comfortable for outdoor activities and dining. On average, April sees highs in the mid-70s and lows in the mid-50s overnight. Rainfall averages less than one inch for April. Santa Barbara is also home to one of the West Coast’s largest and longest-running Earth Day festivals, which occurs in April to celebrate and educate.

Hilo, Hi

by Tabitha from Travel Compositions

The Merrie Monarch Festival in Hilo, Hawaii is an annual week-long celebration of Hawaiian arts and culture that usually takes place in April as the festivities begin on Easter Sunday. The festival is best known for its world-renowned hula competitions which feature hundreds of dancers from across the Hawaii islands coming together to compete in various traditional hula styles.

There are three categories that compete throughout the week: Miss Aloha Hula, wahine (women) groups, and kāne (men) groups.  They perform both hula kahiko (traditional) and hula ʻauana (contemporary) styles of hula. The competition is judged on several criteria, including entrances and exits, techniques and presentations, and overall performance. The awards are given out on the last day of the festival.

Tickets to watch these performances are hot commodities. People will line up the night before the tickets for the non-competitive hula show go on sale. If you want tickets to the competitive hula shows, you are only allowed 2 tickets per person and they must be purchased by sending an order form through the mail.

Performances are also televised on local channels so you can have a front-row seat to view the dancers. If you are unable to score tickets, you can still participate in the festivities by shopping at the Arts and Crafts Fair where you can purchase handmade goods made by local artisans.

You can also attend the Merrie Monarch Royal Parade for a flamboyant procession like you've never seen. Dancers, horseback riders, and performers all dressed in traditional and elegant attire marching and waving down the streets of Hilo.

If you are on the Big Island during this celebration, you do not want to miss this unique glimpse into Hawaiian culture.

Maui, HI

Contributed by Anu Agarwal of Destination Checkoff

Maui, one of the Hawaiian islands, is a fantastic destination for an April holiday. Maui is famous for its beautiful beaches, scenic drives, stunning waterfalls, and vibrant culture. April is an excellent time to visit Maui as the weather is warm and dry, and the crowds are relatively low compared to the peak season.

April is an excellent time to go whale watching in Maui as it falls during the whale watching season of November to May. During winter and spring, humpback whales migrate from the colder waters of Alaska to the warmer waters of Maui for breeding. April is a great time to soak in some sun on a beach. Maui boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, such as Kaanapali Beach, Wailea Beach, and Kapalua Bay Beach. Maui is home to Haleakala National Park which has hiking trails, scenic drives, and stunning views of the sunrise and sunset. April is an excellent time to visit the park as the weather is dry, and the crowds are lower.

Road to Hana Drive is one of the most scenic drives in the world that takes you through lush forests, past waterfalls, and along the coast. It takes an entire day for this drive and the black sand beach is one of the main attractions on this drive. Attend an authentic luau to experience the Hawaiian culture and cuisine like the Old Lahaina Luau.

Lahaina is a historic town on Maui's west coast and is a great town to stay in during your visit. You can stroll along Front Street, visit the galleries and shops, and learn about the town's whaling history. Sheraton Maui Resort and Spa is a great oceanfront resort with excellent amenities and is right on the beach.

Oahu, HI

by Sierra Schmidt from ISLAND + ALPINE

Oahu, Hawaii is a beautiful travel destination in the month of April due to the perfect weather, amazing things to do, and much lower crowds. The gorgeous beaches, tasty restaurants, various Spring festivals, and beautiful hikes are enough to fill several days of holiday fun.

April has average high temperatures in the 70s and low 80s with a moderate amount of rain to keep plants green and waterfalls flowing.

Travelers should head to Kailua Beach for white sand beaches and snorkeling to the Mokolua islands. Nearby Lanikai Beach is perfect for watching the sunrise and hiking to the Lanikai Pillboxes. Ho’omaluhia Botanical Gardens are magical with the lush landscape and surrounding Ko’olau Mountains. Don't miss visiting Jurassic Valley!

For the island’s best snorkeling, Hanauma Bay is perfect for beginners and experienced snorkelers alike. If snorkeling with turtles is on the bucket list, Turtle Canyon in Waikiki is the perfect spot! Three Tables and Shark’s Cove are also excellent options, but as April is a transitional period for calm waves on the North Shore, be sure to check the surf report first and make sure it is under two feet high.

April holds many fun events throughout the month such as the Menehune Surf Contest, Easter Brunch at Egg Hunt at Waimea Valley Botanical Gardens, Hawaii Half Marathon, and the Waikiki Spam Jam Festival.

The island of Oahu is an extremely popular holiday destination – and for good reason! This leads to difficulty getting reservations for lodging, rental cars, and finding parking at beautiful beaches during prime season which is summer and the weeks surrounding major holidays. April is the perfect month to soak up the sunshine after the Spring Break travelers have departed and before the summer crowds arrive.

Brookside Gardens, Md

by Lola from Deyewa

Brookside Gardens in Maryland is a stunning nature park that offers visitors an unforgettable experience. The springtime, especially in April is a perfect time to visit Brookside Gardens to see the beautiful tulips. They are typically planted from the 2nd week of April all the way to the end of April. The tulips are a sight to behold and the garden hardly ever feels crowded so visitors can truly enjoy the experience. Towards the end of the tulip bloom season at Brookside Gardens, the Wisteria begins to bloom and transform the garden.

With its serene ambiance, scenic walking trails, and picnic areas, Brookside Gardens is the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing day out with family and friends, surrounded by the beauty of nature.

Orcas Island, WA

by Sumeeta from Sumeeta Seeks

One of the most exciting holiday destinations in April is Orcas Island in the San Juan Islands to the west of Washington State. It is one of the best April destinations because it offers the perfect mix of natural beauty, outdoor activities, excellent dining options, and exciting activities. April is the perfect time to visit because the weather is warming up, the shops and restaurants that closed down for winter are opening back up, the town center is bustling, and it’s the beginning of Orca whale watching season!

There are a ton of excellent things to do on Orcas Island in April. You can kayak around the islands and go on a whale-watching tour. Art lovers should be sure to check out Orcas Island Artworks to see the work of local artists, Orcas Island Pottery for unique handmade pieces, and Darvill’s Bookstore for local books with a view. Nature lovers can choose from some of the best hikes including Mount Constitution and Obstruction Pass. Foodies will delight in all the excellent culinary choices, and those seeking rejuvenation have some great spa resort options to choose from.

There are also some great lodging options on the island, including secluded cabins and cozy bed and breakfasts. Be sure to plan ahead for ferry times and book your spot in advance, especially in April because it can get busy. And, bring a car so you can access all the best parts of the island.

Seattle, Wa

by Jessica from Uprooted Traveller

If you’re looking for a unique springtime getaway in April, consider visiting Seattle, Washington, tucked in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. There are several special events in Seattle in April.

For example, the Skagit Valley, an hour north of Seattle, hosts the largest Washington tulip festival throughout the month, boasting dozens and dozens of acres of flower fields and literally millions of vibrant tulips.  While you can mosey through fields of colorful tulips and get lots of Instagrammable photos, there are also plenty of other things to do, like perusing craft vendors, taking a trolley ride through the fields, or exploring some of the nurseries for your own garden. It’s no surprise why Oprah has named the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival one of the top ten flower festivals in the United States!

Continuing with the flower theme, April also just so happens to be cherry blossom season in Seattle. There are plenty of places to enjoy the pink blooms, such as the University of Washington campus or Seward Park (which offers spectacular views of Mount Rainier on a clear day!).

This can also be an excellent time to explore some of the state’s excellent hiking trails, without the crowds of summer. Waterfall trails will be especially spectacular at this time of year, due to the springtime snowmelt. Some classic waterfall hikes near Seattle include Wallace Falls, with three rushing waterfalls tucked into a rainforest, or Franklin Falls, a stunning 70-foot waterfall, flowing over a basalt cliffside.

Of course, all of these blooms are due, in part, to the springtime rain that Seattle is so famous for. On the bright side, the temperatures are pretty moderate, with highs in the mid-to-high 50s (perfect for traipsing through flower fields!).

Antelope Canyon, AZ

by Jessica from Un Earth the Voyage

April is one of the best months to visit Upper or Lower Antelope Canyon. Since Antelope Canyon is just South of Page Arizona the heat in the summer is no joke. Visiting in April is the perfect time to enjoy all of the different sections of the slot canyon without having to get up super early to avoid the sun.

One of the best parts of visiting Antelope Canyon is capturing those breathtaking photos of the iconic light beams coming down through the canyon. Depending on which part of the slot canyon you decide to visit the walls can be pretty high.

The high walls make for awesome photos but it also means you’ll need to wait until later in the day for the sun to be higher before the light beams will actually come down into the canyon. April gives you the best of both worlds because you can visit later in the day to see the light beams but not have to worry about intense heat.

Not only is the weather quite a bit cooler in April, but there are also generally speaking fewer people in the spring compared to the summer months. This makes getting tickets and seeing the slot canyon a much more enjoyable experience.

Antelope Canyon is part of the Navajo Nation and is protected by the Navajo people. Everyone is welcome to come to see the canyon but all visitors are required to go on a professionally guided tour. These tours can be somewhat more expensive during the peak summer months. But they can also be somewhat easier to get and somewhat less expensive in the shoulder season months like April!

New York City, NY

By Martha from May Cause Wanderlust

New York City is an exciting city to visit in any month of the year, but it is particularly lovely in April because the city comes to life with green trees, flowers and blossoms. And, added to that, the mild Spring weather makes the city comfortable to explore, without being too hot or too cold.

The city is very walkable in April, so do get out into the streets and avenues to explore the city on foot. Take your time and wander the streets of Greenwich Village, the Lower East Side, Little Italy and Chinatown, taking in the different personalities of these historic neighbourhoods.

Any New York City itinerary will include some of the iconic landmarks in Manhattan, including the Empire State Building, The Chrysler Building, the New York Public Library and Top Of The Rock. And of course, you might want to visit the 911 Memorial and Museum.

You should also definitely explore the city parks.  Central Park feels vibrant and green in April, which is lovely for picnicking or boating on the lake (or watching other people do that!). And you can expect crocuses and daffodils to be flowering, which is an added bonus. Around this time of year, you stand a good chance of seeing cherry tree blossoms, which can be found in a number of parks, including Central Park and Riverside Park.

Finally, as temperatures warm up, New York’s rooftop bars start to open, creating spaces to relax with epic views across the city. For an amazing view of midtown Manhattan’s skyline, consider Westlight, the rooftop bar at the top of the William Vale Hotel in Brooklyn (which is also a very comfortable place to stay).

Washington, D.C.

by Chelsea from Adventures of Chels

A great holiday destination for the month of April is Washington DC.
April is a great time to visit DC because the spring weather is cool and comfortable and crowds are smaller than during peak summer time. There’s also no lack of things to see and do in Washington DC!

Visit the monuments around the National Mall both day and night if possible. They’re beautiful at both times of the day and you won't want to miss either of them. As the National Mall is a large space to cover on foot, consider renting a bike through Capital Bikeshare. For just $8 you’ll have 24-hour access to the shared bikes at any of their docking locations. Pick up and drop off a bike at any location for your convenience. While in DC make sure to visit some of the less obvious historical sites it has to offer as well. Some of these include Ford’s Theater (where Abraham Lincoln was assassinated), The Washington National Cathedral, and the Library of Congress.

Quite possibly the best reason to visit Washington DC in April is for the cherry blossoms. The cherry blossoms in DC tend to bloom sometime between the end of March and the beginning of April. There’s also a whole cherry blossom festival that goes on around the same time to celebrate it! The best place to see the cherry blossoms is on the trees along the Tidal Basin. Be warned that weekends and after-work-hours can get insanely crowded. So the earlier you’re able to arrive on a weekday morning the more you’ll avoid the crowds. If at all possible, allow yourself two days solely to see the blossoms and enjoy the festival. You’ll want to experience it without feeling rushed for time.

Enjoy your April trip to Washington DC!

Boston, MA

by Ruma from New England Cities

April is ideal for spending time off in Boston, Massachusetts USA. It’s the beginning of spring, and therefore many events and ceremonies are organized during this month. The weather remains sunny, with temperatures not exceeding 15 ℃. It’s the perfect weather to explore this historically rich American city.

The main event in Boston during April is the Boston Marathon. This exciting event is held every year on Patriots Day. The route for this marathon stretches for 26 km, starting from Hopkinton and ending at Copley Square. Athletes from all over the country can be seen participating in this race. Witness the exciting finish from Boylston Street near the Boston Public Library. On Patriots Day, you can also experience numerous plays and enactments of the events of the first Massachusetts battles during the Revolutionary War. These acts provide a beautiful reminder to American citizens about their courageous history.

This beautiful city is also great for immersing yourself in nature. Boston boasts a lively collection of spring flowers across the city. Stroll in the city’s parks to witness the bright yellow daffodils and pink cherry blossoms. Enrich yourself with Boston’s artistic influence with a visit to the Fort Point neighborhood. Various unique art museums, galleries, and boutiques are found here. This neighborhood is famous for its delicious restaurants as well.
Sailing is another fun activity if you find yourself in Boston during April. The warm weather is great for sailing in the Boston Harbor or Charles River. Beginners even have the opportunity to learn this exciting sport from here. The Run of the Charles, Boston’s biggest Canoe & Kayak Race, is also held during April every year.

Texas Hill Country, TX

by Sierra Schmidt VERY TRULY TEXAS

Texas Hill Country is lovely year-round with its rolling hills, sweet southern towns with genuine hospitality, and blue rivers running through banks of limestone. However, April is the best time to plan a holiday vacation to Texas Hill Country because it is the only time of year to see the bluebonnets! The Texas state flower covers the hills in seas of purples and blues turning the landscape into breathtaking scenery.

April brings plenty of sunshine to Central Texas without the intense heat that covers the area as summer approaches. It is the best time of year to explore all the incredible things to do while the weather is comfortable and warm.

Fredericksburg is one of the highlights of Hill Country with its German heritage woven through the town with tasty places to eat like The Auslander. Filled with dozens of wineries, it is also a great place for some Texas wine tasting and a picnic in the vineyard. Don’t leave the area without climbing Enchanted Rock, visiting the Pioneer Museum, or stopping by the largest wildflower farm in the country, Wildseed Farms.

April is also strawberry picking season. Jenschke Farms is the perfect spot for picking a basket of berries and walking through the peach orchards covered in spring peach blossoms.

Wimberley should be the next charming town on this Hill Country holiday. Take a stroll around the Blue Hole (a beautiful swimming hole in summer!), check out Jacob’s Well, and take a self-guided tour through the adorable streets looking for artistically designed cowboy boots.

Head to Burnet to kayak in Inks Lake and explore Devil’s Watering Hole. Afterward, tour Longhorn Caverns and walk through many of the hiking paths in the State Park.

Add a couple of scenic drives to the itinerary and you’ll end up with the perfect April travel destination. Willow City Loop in Fredericksburg and Highway 29 between Burnet and Bertram will provide travelers with the most beautiful bluebonnet fields

Grenada

by Rachel from Around the Caribbean

April is the perfect time of year to visit Grenada as it is the dry season and hence most days tend to have warm sunny weather with temperatures in the mid-eighties. The weather is perfect for visiting Grand Anse Beach which has been acknowledged as one of the best beaches in the Caribbean.

This beach is a beautiful two-mile stretch of white sand with turquoise waters and is located within walking distance to malls, bus stops, banks, supermarkets, resorts, restaurants and other amenities.

In addition to amazing beaches, Grenada also boasts majestic waterfalls, mountains, wrecks, reefs, exotic cuisine and so much more. One of the many exciting things to do in St George’s is to visit the House of Chocolate in the heart of the capital city.

This café serves numerous drinks and eats made with locally grown chocolate. The spices in Grenada are of premium quality and despite having a landmass of only 133 square miles, the island is the second-largest producer of nutmeg in the world after Indonesia.

April is also the time of year when the island celebrates Easter. To commemorate these festivities, communities often have various kite flying competitions with prizes awarded in categories such as the largest and smallest kites.

For diving enthusiasts, Grenada is home to the first-world public underwater sculpture park designed by British Sculptor, Jason de Caires Taylor. Some of the prominent statues at this site include the Christ of the Deep, the Nutmeg Princess and the Ring of Children.

April is a spectacular time for diving as visibility is better underwater during the dry season.

Antigua

Submitted by Lee Friedman, Founder of Mango Tree Travel

If a tropical destination appeals to you for your next April vacation, you should absolutely put Antigua and Barbuda on your wish list. With its beautiful beaches -- 365 of them to be exact -- and warm weather in April, it’s a top pick for an unforgettable vacation.

Antigua’s weather in April is absolutely perfect. Average temperatures range between 26 and 29 degrees Celsius, with sunny days and clear skies for miles. April is part of Antigua's dry season, so you won't see much rain and can spend plenty of time soaking up the sun on the beach.

Why pick Antigua over another Caribbean island for an April vacation? For water and boat lovers, the clear answer is Antigua's two boating festivals, held in April each year: The Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta and the Antigua Sailing Week. These unique events make April one of the best months to visit this amazing island paradise!

Antigua is known for its yachting and sailing due to its sheltered harbours and anchorages. When the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta kicks off in mid-April, yachts of all shapes and sizes gather in Antigua's harbors for a week of racing, attracting boat lovers from around the globe. Local bars and restaurants host countless events, with live music and dock parties galore.

The week after the Yacht Regatta is always Antigua Sailing Week – also known as ASW. It's one of the top three sailing regattas in the world and usually falls in the last week of April or the first week of May. This spectacular event is a must for sailing enthusiasts. On top of the races, there are nightly events planned at various venues around the historic English Harbour, one of Antigua's most fun areas to explore.

If you’re looking for an unforgettable Caribbean experience this April, then Antigua should definitely be at the top of your list!

Mexico

Yucatan Peninsula

by Zoe from Zoe Goes Places

April is the perfect time to visit Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. The snowbird and spring break crowds are gone but the rainy season hasn't yet rolled in. That said, the Easter weekend can be busy if it falls in April. But there isn't much in the way of celebration in the tourist-centric Yucatan Peninsula. However, it's still great to visit at this time. Expect sizzling temperatures and blue skies. It's perfect to enjoy the best attractions and places the Yucatan Peninsula has to offer.

Most days will see temperature highs of around 30 Celsius. While April usually only sees 1 or 2 rainy days. Evening temperatures are also pleasant - but not stifling hot - so you can leave your jacket at the hotel for dinner out.

So whether it's Mayan sites like Uxmal or Chichen Itza or beach towns like Puerto Morelos or Playa del Carmen, there's something here for everyone. The clear skies and dazzling sunshine make Bacalar's lagoon of 7 colours even more radiant. Take a sailboat trip around the lagoon and swim in the clear, vivid blue water. Or take a trip to Isla Holbox. Where the white sand beaches are the perfect place to work on your tan and see flamingos fly overhead!

And of course, there are more cenotes than you can count to visit and swim in around the peninsula. Or if the sea is more your style, swim with turtles in Akumal or go snorkelling in Cozumel - it's some of the best in the world!

Tulum

By Mal of Raw Mal Roams

With perfect weather and a myriad of incredible things to do, Tulum is an incredible holiday destination to visit in April. Situated on the Caribbean coast of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, Tulum offers a unique combination of stunning, white-sand beaches, cenotes, fascinating archaeological ruins, as well as vibrant nightlife and an excellent food scene.

April is a great time to visit Tulum as the weather is warm and sunny, perfect for enjoying the beach and sightseeing. The days are mostly sunny, with temperatures reaching up to 29°C during the day and cooling down to around 23°C at night. April, together with March, experiences the lowest rainfall of the whole year, which makes it a great time for making the most of all available water sports activities, snorkelling in the sea and sailing.

In addition, the end of April marks the beginning of the low season in Tulum, so you can expect lower hotel rates and fewer crowds of tourists. If you are a nightlife enthusiast, visit Tulum during spring break and enjoy the lively atmosphere and fabulous parties organized by various beach clubs such as the Papaya Playa Project or Vegalume.

Apart from fantastic beaches and parties, Tulum is an ideal base for visiting the best cenotes of Yucatan. Gran Cenote and Cenote Calavera should definitely be on your list of places to visit. Both these cenotes are perfect for an afternoon swim.

Finally, for history-loving visitors, Tulum ruins offer a unique insight into the Mayan civilization that inhabited this place centuries ago. The Tulum Archeological Zone, located on a spectacular cliff overlooking the Caribbean Sea, is the best-preserved Mayan coastal fortress.

Puerto Vallarta

by Lora from Explore with Lora

When it comes to April holiday destinations, there's none better than Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

The main reason to come to Puerto Vallarta is Semana Santa, the Holy Week leading up to Easter Sunday. This is a religious holiday celebrated throughout Mexico, but Puerto Vallarta is known for its elaborate processions and celebrations during this time. Over 20,000 nationals travel during this time, and Puerto Vallarta is one of the top destinations in the country!

While it's a religious holiday, the city turns into a massive fiesta on the streets, with live music, performances, and events going on throughout the city. The main hub of activity is along the Malecon, a mile-long stretch of boardwalk along the Pacific Coast. It's so much fun being on the streets with both Mexican and international tourists, celebrating in the early hours of the morning.

Aside from Semana Santa, there are plenty of other reasons to visit Puerto Vallarta in April. The city's beautiful beaches and natural attractions, such as the Vallarta Botanical Gardens and the Marietas Islands, are popular destinations year-round. It's also a great time to go hiking to the many waterfalls around the city.

In terms of accommodation, there are many luxurious all-inclusive resorts in Puerto Vallarta that offer amenities such as swimming pools, kids' clubs, and organized activities. But if you plan to come during Semana Santa, book early, as accommodations do fill up. If you want to avoid the crowds, plan your trip after the easter weekend when you'll be able to find lower prices on hotels.

Argentina

Patagonia

Recommended by Audrey of Che Argentina Travel

Visiting northern Patagonia off-peak season in the month of April has many advantages. Not only have the summer crowds dispersed (Argentines enjoy their summer holidays from December to February), but the weather has also cooled down a bit, and you have beautiful autumn foliage highlighting the epic mountain landscapes.

A road trip can be a nice way to thoroughly explore northern Patagonia. Some of the highlights can include riding the Old Patagonian Express train in Esquel, visiting vineyards and enjoying wine tastings in Trevelin, trekking in the hippie mountain town of El Bolsón, going on boat adventures on Nahuel Huapi Lake in Bariloche, and driving the iconic Road of the Seven Lakes in Villa La Angostura. This is a part of the world where nature and pristine landscapes abound, so the key is to travel slowly and soak it all in!

The cooler weather is also a great opportunity to dive into the local Patagonian cuisine which features plenty of hearty dishes like lamb on the spit, wild boar stew, and trout in a creamy mushroom sauce. Not to mention all the craft breweries and artisanal chocolate shops - precisely the type of food you crave when the temperatures start to drop!

A unique event to attend during the month of April is the Eisteddfod Festival in Trevelin (though be sure to check the dates before travelling there as these can vary slightly from year to year). This is a celebration of Welsh arts, language and culture, which might seem a bit out of place in Argentina, however, we have to remember that Patagonia experienced a big wave of Welsh immigration in the 19th century which left its mark.

So if you're in need of some April travel inspiration, consider northern Patagonia!

Psst: We love Argentina! Here is BRB 2 weeks itinerary.

CORFU

by Jo from World Wild Schooling

Corfu is one of the best holiday destinations to visit in April. It is warm and pleasant, but not sweltering hot. The island is also lively and bustling, but still not crowded. April is a great time to explore Corfu; the weather is perfect for sightseeing and activities.

An extraordinary Easter tradition that takes place on the Saturday before Easter Sunday is one of the main attractions in Corfu. This custom involves throwing clay pots full of water known as "botides". It is believed that smashing the pots will bring luck and prosperity. This is why both locals and tourists keep a piece of the shattered pot with them. The custom is said to have been implemented during the Venetian period of Corfu.

April is also the perfect time to explore the stunning Old Town of Corfu, which is home to several beautiful churches and monuments in Corfu. Plenty of interesting historical sites exist to explore, such as the Old Venetian Fortress and Pontikonisi. Strolling around without the crowds is an amazing experience!

You can also try a traditional Greek salad, which is a mix of tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, feta cheese, and olives.

In April the weather in Corfu is mild with the average temperature around 20 degrees. However, the evenings can be chilly, so a lightweight jacket is a good idea.

All in all, Corfu is a great destination to visit in April. It has a warm and pleasant climate and plenty of interesting things to see and do. Whether you want to indulge in some delicious local food or explore the charming Old Town and the historical sites, there is something here for everyone.

CRETE

by Tanya from MY RIGHT SOCK

Crete is a great destination in April because of its mild weather and abundance of outdoor activities. The temperatures during this time are between a comfortable 17 - 22 degrees and can go up to 25 degrees towards the end of the month. Because the weather is just opening up, there are fewer tourists, leaving plenty of room for you to explore the island and its attractions. Rainy days are few and far between, and the sun is already fairly abundant in April as Crete is one of Greece's warmest islands.

In addition to pristine beaches, there are plenty of activities to enjoy in Crete during April. Hiking is a great way to explore the island's lush countryside. Especially the Chania region offers a motley mix of nature reserves, waterfalls and springs, and mountains and gorges. You can take vineyard tours to catch grapevines in bloom and visit local wineries for a tasting. Crete's native varieties include Kotsifali, Liatiko, and Mandilari.

Thinner crowds in April mean you can take your time at the archaeological sites around Crete. Ancient Minoan and Roman ruins, such as the Palace of Knossos, and the historically significant Spinalonga island feature among the most famous landmarks in Greece.

You can sample the flavorful Cretan cuisine and discover the island's quaint villages such as Lasithi and Rethymnon. Easter is one of the most important and joyous holidays in Greece, so if you visit Crete during this time of the month, you can experience a traditional Easter feast with festive music, delicious food and wine, and lots of dancing. The small fishing towns of Elounda and Agios Nikolaos, with their picturesque harbors, are also particularly inviting in April, thanks to low winds and blooming wildflowers.

METEORA

by Ausra Osipaviciute of The Road Reel

Perfect for your April holiday in Europe, an incredibly beautiful destination that offers ages-old history, culture, and nature in one place is Meteora in Greece.  The mysterious Meteora monasteries perched atop vertical narrow pillars of rock are a sight to behold.

Located in Thessaly, central Greece, Meteora is one of the most striking destinations in Europe and the World. The surreal rock formations dominating the valley of Meteora date 60 million years back and were sculpted by geological movements and shaped by winds and rains.

The first Meteora monasteries were built in the 11th century when a group of monks decided to seek solitude closer to the sky. Today 6 functional monasteries out of 24 remain and are in great shape with continuous restoration work being done to preserve them.

Once a hidden gem, the UNESCO-protected sight, Meteora, and its six hanging monasteries is a popular tourist attraction in Greece. That being said, visiting during shoulder season which falls in April, is a perfect time for a few important reasons. First and foremost, there will be far fewer people than in summer allowing you to quietly visit the monasteries and enjoy the best viewpoints in peace. Also, the weather will be perfect with mild temperatures as opposed to scorching summer heat. Last but not least, there will be plenty of accommodation options available to choose from.

You can visit Meteora monasteries as a day trip from Athens or Thessaloniki, however, for the best and unrushed experience you should aim to spend a night or two. Note that the base towns closest to Meteora are Kalampaka and Kastraki.

The best way to get to Meteora in Greece is by driving. However, there are regular trains departing both from Athens and Thessaloniki, as well as organized day tours, giving you plenty of options to arrange your visit.

AEGINA

One of the best April holiday destinations is Aegina, Greece. You can easily do a day trip to Aegina from Athens or stay a few days. Even though it’s a small island, there is plenty to do. April is a great time to visit because the weather is warming up, but it’s still not uncomfortably hot. The average temperature in April ranges from a high of 66°F (19°C) to a low of 54°F (12°C).

Visiting in April will allow you to experience the Easter celebrations. There is live music, firecrackers, and plenty of food. There are also big processions and chants can be heard from one end of Aegina Town to the other.

Aegina Island is also known for its pistachios and seafood, so be sure to try some of both. There are also many archaeological sites on the island. Two of the most popular are the Temple of Aphaia and the Temple of Apollo. The Temple of Aphaia is located in the northeast area of the island, about 20 minutes from Aegina Town. The very well-preserved site dates back to possibly the beginning of the 2nd millennium B.C. The Temple of Apollo is just north of Aegina Town and it is an active archaeological site where excavations are still taking place.

You can get to Aegina Island by ferry from Athens. Once you’re on the island, if you want to visit other towns and villages besides Aegina Town, you will have to rent a vehicle, take taxis, or go on a tour.

BARCELONA

by Vicki from Vicki Viaja

Barcelona is one of these destinations that you can visit perfectly all year round. For many, however, April is the best month to visit Barcelona.

This is because the weather in the Catalan capital is excellent during this month. While most places in Europe are just waking up from their winter rest, Barcelona's temperatures are already beautifully warm and sunny - but not too hot yet. Whether you just want to enjoy the warm spring-like weather while sightseeing, go on a hiking tour from Barcelona, enjoy a cold drink on of the countless terraces throughout the city, have long walks on Barcelona's beaches, or maybe even experience your first cold swim of the year in the Mediterranean Sea - April is just great for that.

Romantics are especially drawn to the city at the end of the month. Because Sant Jordi Day is ideal for all lovers. This traditional festival is also known as Catalan Valentine's Day. Traditionally, lovers give each other a book and a red rose on this day so that you can spot books and flower stalls all over the city. Some of the landmarks, like the famous Casa Batlló building, are decorated with red roses on this day to celebrate the region's lovers and Saint Jordi himself

Another highlight in April is the Spanish Easter week, called Semana Santa. During this week, you can buy terrific Easter cakes called Mona de Pascua throughout Catalonia. The colorful cakes are individual creative pieces that are topped with various decorations. These can be simple sugar ornaments or genuine works of art made of chocolate. Stroll through the streets of Barcelona and be surprised by the great options in the windows of bakeries and candy stores.

One of the reasons why Tenerife is a great holiday decision for April is its weather. The temperature during this time of year is warm and pleasant, with an average of 21°C (70°F). The days are long and sunny, providing the perfect opportunity to soak up the sun on the beaches or enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, and exploring the island's natural wonders.

If you happen to be in Tenerife during the Easter celebrations, you should definitely plan to see some of the festivities. Easter is a significant event in Tenerife, and it is celebrated with great fervor and enthusiasm. The celebrations include processions, religious ceremonies, and street performances. The most notable celebration is the Semana Santa (Holy Week) in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. During this week, there are processions throughout the city, where participants carry statues and religious icons.

One of the places in Tenerife that you have to visit is the Maca Valley. The valley is a haven for nature lovers and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. In April, the valley is in full bloom, with an array of colorful flowers, plants, and trees that create a stunning visual display.

Tenerife has many other attractions that are worth visiting in April. The island is home to Teide National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site and offers stunning volcanic landscapes and unique flora and fauna. Visitors can also explore the island's historic towns like La Laguna or Vilaflor, and the charming coastal town of Garachico. April is also the perfect time to enjoy Siam Park, which is one of the best waterparks in Europe.

VALENCIA

By Valencia Revealed

Valencia is a great destination to visit in April due to the great number of available activities this time of the year. Ideally, you should try to spend approximately 4 days in Valencia so you get to do them all.

One of the main draws of visiting Valencia in April is the fantastic weather. With average maximum temperatures of 21°C and minimal rainfall, April is the perfect time to explore the city and enjoy its many outdoor attractions, such as the City of Arts and Sciences, the Turia Gardens, and the beaches. Although the water is not warm enough to swim just yet, you can definitely get a nice tan or walk on the beach as early as April.

Another reason to visit Valencia in April is to witness the city's Easter processions, which are some of the most impressive and solemn in Spain. These processions are held throughout the Holy Week and involve elaborate floats and costumes, mourning music, as well as the traditional Nazarene cloaks worn by the participants. The most famous procession takes place on Good Friday when the streets of El Cabanyal neighborhood are filled with thousands of people watching as the floats make their way through the streets.

Apart from the Easter processions, there are many other cultural events and festivals taking place in Valencia in April. The city hosts the annual Book Fair, where you can buy all kinds of books, old and new, and Feria de Abril, a festival celebrating Andalusian culture with flamenco dancing, music, and food. While Feria de Abril in Valencia is nowhere near as big as the one in Seville, it is a popular event and a great opportunity to sample all kinds of delicacies

CORDOBA

by Milijana of World Travel Connector

Cordoba in southern Spain is one of the most beautiful cities in Spain.

Cordoba is a World Heritage City. It is famous for its mix of Roman, Moorish, and Spanish cultural heritage. Its Mezquita Cathedral and beautiful patios are world-famous. The Mezquita Cathedral is one of the most magnificent sacral buildings in the world. UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site. UNESCO enlisted its courtyards on the World’s Heritage Sites list too. There is no need to explain how stunning the patios get in spring when flowers bloom. Touring the four World Heritage Sites (the Mezquita Cathedral, patios of Cordoba, the historic center of Cordoba, and Medina-Azahar) is among the best things to do in Cordoba, Spain

However, Cordoba celebrates Easter in April. Easter is one of the most significant holidays in Spain. The Holy Week parades in Cordoba are among the most spectacular in Spain. The tradition of the Holy Week processions in Cordoba is centuries-old.

The members of 38 Brotherhoods of Penance march in the public processions in the streets of the historic center every day during the Holy Week from Palm Sunday to Easter. The penitents dressed in distinctive face-covering hoods and robes walk and carry large wooden floats with sculptures of Jesus Christ and the Grieving Virgin Mary. Drums, cornets, and saetas (the mournful flamenco-style religious music) accompany the processions. The most spectacular parades happen on Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday.

Spring is a fabulous time for traveling to Cordoba, and April is one of the best months for visiting Cordoba. The weather in April comes with lots of sunlight and pleasant temperatures for sightseeing. Daytime temperatures in Córdoba in April go around 23.0°C.

If you want to visit one of the most beautiful Spanish cities and see one of the most spectacular events in Spain, head to Cordoba in April.

SEVILLE

Contributed by Linn Haglund of Amused by Andalucia

If you are looking for holiday destinations for April, you should not miss out on Seville in southern Spain. This is the month of the famous April Fair, locally known as Feria de Sevilla. The enormous fairground is filled with a maze of temporary tents with so-called “casetas” where different families and organizations set up bars, bands, toilets, and dance to anything from Sevillanas music to the season’s top hits. Most locals take a week off work and spend it partying and dancing all night in their colorful, traditional flamenco dresses. During the day, you will see a lot of people riding horses with traditional clothing not only on the fairground but also throughout the city. Note that most of the fair tents are private and you must know someone who can get tickets as they are only sold to friends, family, or employees. However, there is a handful of public “casetas” where everyone can buy drinks and dance.

During the April Fair, you will find a lot of smaller shops and bars are closed or have restricted opening hours. However, you can still do touristy activities during the day, like visiting the cathedral and Giralda Tower, walking the mesmerizing gardens of the Real Alcazar, and taking pictures at Plaza de España. The April weather is also perfect for exploring the Guadalquivir River. Whether you want to go on one of the boat tours in Seville or get active on a paddleboard or kayak, it is lovely with 20-degree (Celsius) days. The Torre del Oro is also beautiful at sunset when the golden light reflects in the old tower on the riverside. Also, Seville’s newest attraction, the Setas de Sevilla, deserves a visit. The modern structure resembles a big mushroom and offers sweeping views of the city from the rooftop.

RONDA

by Andreea owner of Andoreia

Ronda is a small town in the Andalusia region, Southern Spain, famous for its spectacular Puente Nuevo bridge. While the bridge looks fairly unimpressive when you cross it, it's its side view that wows visitors, since it straddles the dramatic Tajo gorge.

Aside from admiring the bridge and the canyon, you should also explore the Old Town, visit Mondragon Palace (Palacio de Mondragón), and go wine tasting, or hiking.

I will mention that there's also a bullring in Ronda, but since it is still active (meaning bullfights still take place there to this day) I don't feel comfortable recommending it as I personally don't agree with this sport. While I did appreciate the arena from afar from an architectural point of view, I hope other events will soon be held there instead of bullfights.

Ronda is also a good base from where you can visit the popular white villages of the region, like Setenil de las Bodegas, Zahara de la Sierra, or Arcos de la Frontera (for Mijas and Frigiliana, Malaga will probably be a better choice though). And the best thing about it is that it's a great destination to visit in spring due to its southern location.

In fact, April is one of the best months to visit Ronda: the average maximum temperature during this month is around 20 degrees Celsius, while the average minimum is around 9 - 10 degrees. So the weather is pleasant enough for sightseeing and hiking, yet it won't be as busy as in summer, nor as hot.

Holland

SOUTH HOLLAND

by Chris Heckman around the world with me

April in the Netherlands means that the tulip season is in full bloom. The Netherlands is the world’s leader in tulip exports and tulips and other flower fields can be found all around the country. But the greatest concentration of tulip fields can be found in South Holland in and around the small town of Lisse. If you’re visiting in April, Lisse must be a part of your Netherlands travel itinerary.

The region around Lisse is covered in endless flower fields. You’ll need to either rent a car or a bike to get around the back roads that the flower farms are situated on. A car is best, though parking along rural roads is limited, to say the least. Just remember that the tulip fields are private property, so technically you’re not supposed to walk through them. Some farmers don’t mind while wanting you to get lost. There are ample opportunities to enjoy the flower fields from the edge of the farm, however. And be sure not to pick flowers from the fields. If you want your own tulips, plenty of people sell them from the side of the road.

Lisse is also home to Keukenhof Gardens, the world-famous flower garden that most people visit in lieu of exploring the actual tulip fields. While Keukenhof is nice, it is super touristy and ridiculously busy during the 6 weeks per year that it’s open. If you’re okay with the crowds, though, it is a beautiful park.

As public transport to Lisse is not exactly easy, Keukenhof runs a direct bus to and from Amsterdam that stops at Schiphol Airport and Europaplein in south Amsterdam. The bus costs 17 euros round trip or can be purchased with an online combined ticket for entry to the park. Lisse is also along the route of the annual Dutch Flower Parade, which runs from Noordwijk to Haarlem. It’s exactly what you think it is; a parade dedicated to flowers!

Combine your visit to the famous Dutch flower fields with stops in other popular Dutch tourist destinations – maybe even King’s Day in Amsterdam - and you’ll have a superb April trip to the Netherlands.

KEUKENHOF

Submitted by Taylor from Traverse With Taylor

If you're looking for an experience that you can only have in the spring, then one of the best destinations for an April holiday is a getaway to the Netherlands. During the spring, one of the world's foremost agricultural phenomena is on display here- Keukenhof.

The Keukenhof Tulip Garden, or the Garden of Europe, is overwhelming in the best way. With more than 32 hectares of garden space and about 7 million bulbs planted each year, walking in Keukenhof feels like an escape to a beautiful meadow filled with nature's inescapable beauty.

Keukenhof is only visitable during the spring months when tulips, the flower the Netherlands is famous for, are in bloom. Therefore, this enormous flower garden is only open for about 6 weeks each year- from the end of March through the beginning of May.

Although Keukenhof is technically located in Lisse, the Netherlands, you should take the opportunity to spend a few days in Amsterdam while you're visiting! This is the best jumping-off point for a visit to the tulip gardens, and Keukenhof is easily reachable from the city of Amsterdam.

Luckily, even aside from Keukenhof, April is a fantastic time to visit the Netherlands. The weather is just warming up from the winter, and this makes enjoying some of the most fantastic parts of Amsterdam much more enjoyable.

For instance, you can't take a trip to Amsterdam without embarking on a fantastic canal cruise of the world-famous, UNESCO World Heritage canal ring. This network of waterways in the center of Amsterdam is stunning in the spring, and you just might be able to enjoy a cruise with an open boat in April!

LONDON

by Alex and Leah from Alex and Leah on tour

Without a doubt one of the best holiday destinations to visit in April in London.

Being one of the biggest cities in the world according to the geographical area, London is full of amazing things to do. Setting aside all the classic things to do like visit Big Ben, the London Eye and the Tower of London, there are loads that can be done in the month of April. For example, why not check out the Sabine Rooftop Bar in the glorious sun or have a stroll in the shadows of Buckingham Palace around St-James’ Park? Alternatively, if you love animals, you absolutely have to check out Vauxhall City Farm where you can pay for some snacks for the Alpacas and baby goats!

By this point in the year, the weather is pretty spot as it’s unlikely to rain, it’ll be very sunny and not too hot to be outside all day.

Given it’s the capital city of England and it is one of the main transport hubs in the world, getting here is incredibly easy. So no matter where in the world, Europe or the UK you are, getting to London is incredibly easy by plane, train, car or bus!

Similarly, London has arguably one of the best transport networks in the whole world which makes it so easy to get anywhere. You can tap on and off on the underground as well as on its extensive bus route meaning the possibilities are endless!

If you’re looking to stay central, why not check out the Z Hotel in Piccadilly Circus where you’ll be a stone’s throw away from Leicester Square and Trafalgar Square?

CARDIFF

By Mayuri from To Some Place New

Visiting Cardiff in April offers a unique opportunity to experience the city at its best. During this month, the days are longer and the weather is generally mild, making it ideal for sightseeing or simply soaking up some Welsh culture.

Cardiff Castle is certainly worth a visit on your trip. It is a must-add to your Cardiff itinerary in April. The castle has undergone many architectural changes throughout its history, making it an interesting cultural attraction. The large castle grounds are open in April, and you can enjoy a lovely stroll, sit at the patio cafe, and learn about its past. It might be slightly chilly for a picnic, but the temperatures are still pleasant for a walk.

The National Museum Cardiff is also worth a visit in April. The museum houses art and artifacts from around the world and offers a great opportunity to learn about Welsh culture, history, and art. You won’t find a lot of crowds here in the springtime.

April is also a great time for outdoor activities in Cardiff. By mid of the month, spring flowers are blooming and it is time to finally enjoy the sun. Alexandra Gardens and Sophia Gardens are perfect for a spring visit. If you're feeling adventurous, take a hike and explore some of the city's many parks and trails. You can also enjoy some watersports on Cardiff Bay including sailing, canoeing, and paddleboarding.

ENGLISH COUNTRYSIDE

by Hannah from Art Distance

The English countryside is a perfect destination in April, as bluebells fill the woods with a magical glow and tulip gardens spring to life. While the weather can be changeable, sometimes unseasonably warm and sometimes chilly and rainy, what you can count on is the beautiful atmosphere of spring blooms in gardens all across the country. Tulips will bloom from the second week of April onwards, and bluebells will be in full bloom by the end of the month.

There are dozens of formal gardens and bluebell woods in the English countryside, but some areas I would recommend are the Cotswolds, Somerset, or the home counties surrounding London. Many stately homes will encompass a historic home, formal gardens, as well as access to woodland walks. Searching via National Trust is a good way to find these in whichever area you wish to explore. Additionally, there are many free woodland walks all around the country which will be brimming with bluebells at this time of year.

Arundel Castle in Sussex is an incredible destination for tulips and there are plenty of bluebell woods nearby. Grey’s Court in Berkshire has an outstanding bluebell walk on site, as does Scotney Castle in Kent which is home to a 14th-century moated castle. In other words, visiting April in England is like walking through a fairytale.

Bluebells grow natively in woodlands and are tender flowers that don’t withstand trampling so please be careful to stay on the pathways. Many of the sites mentioned can be reached as day trips from London or short weekend trips as part of a longer visit to England.

ISLE OF HARRIS AND LEWIS, SCOTLAND

by Kristin from Scotland less explored

April is a great month to visit Scotland and particularly Harris and Lewis in the Outer Hebrides.

The reason to visit in April is because this is one of the months when you are most likely to get blue skies. This is Scotland though so be prepared for changeable weather and for it is around 10 degrees Celsius (50 degrees Fahrenheit). It is not unusual to have all four seasons in one day. April is also before the midges arrive and the summer school holidays so you are likely to have the beaches and walks to yourself.

Nature, particularly the scenic hikes and beaches, are the main reasons to visit. On Lewis, the beaches have tall cliffs and mountainous backdrops, such as at Uig Sands. In Harris, they are sandy with turquoise waters. Some of the best beaches are Seilebost and Luskentyre beach. Some of the best hikes are in the Uig Mountains in Lewis and Beinn Dubh in Harris. If you are looking for more of a challenge, consider the 200-mile walk through the Outer Hebrides called the Hebridean Way.

For a bit of culture don’t miss the 5,000-year-old Callanish stones or the Eilean Donan Museum in Stornoway in Lewis. The museum gives a good overview of what it was like to live on the islands in the past. Most people come to the museum to see the Uig chessmen which are small chess pieces from the Viking times carved from walrus tusks. The museum is right next to Lews Castle which has fabulous grounds and views over Stornoway.

The Isle of Harris and Lewis are north of mainland Scotland and only accessible by ferry or a domestic flight. Domestic flights depart from Glasgow and Inverness to Stornoway. The ferry runs from Ullapool to Stornoway and Uig on Skye to Tarbert.

SWANSEA, WALES

by Siobhan-Patrina from Pink Skies and Paradise

Fed up with grey skies and ever-pouring rain, I decided on a quick getaway to Swansea, Wales. I needed to see some sand and sea at a moment's notice and as a parent on a budget, I was looking for somewhere not too far from London. So, I left rainy London for a 4-hour coach ride to Wales. Upon arriving, the sun was beaming, and although it was only 4 hours away from London, it was considerably warmer. We walked up to our hotel, which was a 25-minute walk from the station and had to remove our coats to finish our journey. As the weather was exceedingly warm in Swansea, we decided to go for a late afternoon stroll down to the beach.

Leaving our jackets behind, we enjoyed a few hours on the beach. We walked down to the centre of town, to find somewhere we could have dinner, and the weather still seemed promising for the rest of the evening. With such a lively and bustling environment, Swansea is the perfect place for a quick, cheeky and warm getaway.

The weather is generally warm in April, and with the bank holidays and half-term approaching, you'll most likely find plenty of things to do. Wales has a wealth of history, culture and entertainment. Whether you are visiting the South or the North, Wales offers a variety of things to do, see and experience.

You'll enjoy some pleasant views of the marina on a warm summer's day while watching the boats come in and out of the dock. If you're lucky, you might be able to watch some of the campfires on the beach in the evening. Roughly an hour away, you'll find Cardiff, where you'll benefit from a visit to the infamous castle. If you're looking for other promising getaways, you'll find warm holiday destinations suitable for every budget here!

ITRIA VALLEY, PUGLIA

From Olivia of Livguine

There’s no better time to visit the magical Itria Valley nestled inland from the coastal region of Puglia than in April. Running from the capital Bari to the coast of Taranto, this little pocket of the countryside is full of olive trees, vineyards, and ancient whitewashed hilltop towns just begging to be explored. A trip to the Valle d’Itria in April is ideal as temperatures are still mild (around 18C/65F) and crowds are sparse given Puglia is typically a beach destination. The towns come to life with flowers blossoming everywhere and sunny days making it ideal for sightseeing.

A trip to the Itria Valley should include a stay in a Masseria (the Pugliese version of a farm stay) and there are options to suit all levels of budgets. Visit an olive oil grove and mill and taste the peppery green extra virgin olive oil that the region is famous for and their up and coming wines. Head to unique Alberobello (ideal in April before the tour buses descend) and gaze upon fairytale-like trulli houses (note you can even stay in one!) Be sure to include a stop in the baroque capital of the Valle d’Itria, Martina Franca- there is a fabulous antique market here on a Sunday! Ceramic lovers will want to journey to Grottaglie, the heart of the ceramic tradition in Puglia where you can find real-deal local artisans and collect an array of unique precious handcrafted items.

Last but not least, a trip to the Itria Valley in April is a perfect time to give your tastebuds a gastronomic treat before the region becomes unbearably hot. Indulge in the famous Capocollo cured meat from Martina Franca, bombette (rolled pork bundles), focaccia Barese (made with potato flour), hand-rolled orecchiette pasta with vibrant green broccoli sprouts, and iconic drinks like caffe’ Lecesse made with ice, coffee and almond syrup. A trip to this part of the world in April will give you the chance to have an authentic local experience.

SICILY

by Caroline from Veggie Wayfarer

The little Mediterranean island of Sicily in southern Italy is a wonderful place to visit in April. On a good year, this is the very month locals start stripping down and heading into the sea for their first dip of the year. Temperatures have not reached scorching yet – summer sees temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius and upwards – and the island is still blissfully void of the large hordes of tourists that tend to start trickling in as of May. The very best place to stay in Sicily is without a doubt its bustling capital Palermo! If you stay but a few days, explore Palermo - The Palatine Chapel, Palermo Cathedral, Ballaro & il Capo historical markets, Mondello – and the surrounding villages of Monreale and Cefalu. Both are easily accessible via bus from Palermo, or if you are adventurous consider renting a car and braving the hair-raising traffic that Palermo is known for.

If you have a little longer, consider heading out to the eastern part of Sicily. Explore the beautiful Greek amphitheatre in Taormina, make a day trek up to Mount Etna or get lost in the many alleys and streets of Catania, the island’s largest city. A little further to the east you will find some of the Baroque beauties Sicily is known for: Ortigia, and Noto. These will require a car to get to as public transportation on the island is still patchy at best. Each of these villages can be visited in half a day, and are within driving distance from each other.  When visiting in April, temperatures will be nice and warm during the day but you will want to pack a light jacket and a jumper for the evenings as they tend to get chilly.

SOUTH TYROL

by Paul D'Souza from Paulmarina

South Tyrol in Italy is a mountainous province bordering Austria and Switzerland. It is known for being very different from the rest of Italy, thanks to its dramatic landscape and its Tyrolean culture. One of the smartest times to visit this region is in April, right after the snow melts. That's when you will be able to see the best side of the region without the tourist masses. Snow-capped mountains, wild spring flowers growing in the lush green fields and weather that isn't too hot nor too cold await you in April. The temperatures generally average between 50 and 60 Fahrenheit in the towns. Some hiking trails won't have snow and ice anymore, such as a forest trail at the Drei Zinnen Dolomites mountain trail and the trail above Lake Braies. Both areas are not that busy in April, so you will have those stunning areas to yourself. You can also organize a road trip across the Vinschgau valley and visit the bell tower in Lake Resia, the medieval city of Glurns or the castle ruins of Castello di Montechiaro. Take a stroll through the capital Bolzano or the charming medieval town of Merano, which is also known for its thermal spa waters and excellent wines. Lovers of flowers shouldn't miss the annual flower fair in the last week of April in Merano where flowers from all over the region are the star for 3 days. While you are in town, visit the gardens of Trauttmansdorff castle, which is a botanical-terraced garden with art installations and the place has a fantastic view of the Alps. I recommend spending at least 3 days in the region if you don't have that much time, but if you can spare more days to explore heritage sites and attractions in South Tyrol, it is well worth it!

VENICE

By Maddy from Venice Travel Tips

Venice also called La Serenissima which means ‘the most serene’ is one of the best cities in Italy to visit in the month of April. With the start of the spring, you can stop by some of the most famous attractions which are yet to be flooded with crowds. There’s no better way to get to know a city like Venice than exploring the city on foot and getting lost in its maze-like streets for a couple of hours. You will find that April is one of the best times to visit Venice because it offers pleasant temperatures that on average range between 14 and 18 °C, and on a sunny day, can easily go above 20 °C. This means that it is not cold and neither is it too hot to be able to enjoy many of the outdoor activities on offer. Firstly, make sure to go on a gondola ride, ideally early in the morning before the majority of the other tourists arrive. You can then join a street food or walking tour and learn more about Venice’s history and food culture, with a local guide. If you’re spending more than 2 days in Venice, take full advantage of the warm weather by exploring other islands in the lagoon such as Murano and Burano, or if you fancy some beach time, head over to Lido by water bus. In April there are also a couple of events worth attending. Depending on the year, you can celebrate Easter in Venice and head out for a traditional Venetian meal with family or friends. Or, you can even commemorate Venice’s patron saint: Saint Mark Evangelist on the 25th. For this event, you can attend the solemn mass inside St. Mark’s Basilica and admire the golden mosaics. After that, go for a stroll around St. Mark’s Square and visit Doge’s Palace before taking a picture of the famous Bridge of Sighs. Finally, after crossing Rialto Bridge, which is the most iconic bridge in Venice, you can visit the Rialto market and wander around the fresh fruit and vegetable stalls, that way, you’ll feel like a real Venetian.

TUSCIA REGION

By Annalisa of Travel Connect Experience

Spring is the perfect time to visit the Tuscia region in central Italy.

Not to be confused with Tuscany, Tuscia is an area that stretches in the northern part of Lazio, between the cities of Rome and Viterbo. This region has unique landscapes with immense forests that grow over gorges brimming with streams. The landscapes are dominated by large flat spurs of rock on which rise picturesque medieval villages such as Civita di Bagnoregio, Calcata, Nepi, Sutri, Ceri

Hiking in these gorges is extremely rewarding, especially in April, when the woods are filled with colorful little flowers: ranunculus, anemone, cyclamen, and cistus. Walking through these woods, one often comes across ancient rock-carved tombs, which archaeologists have traced back to ancient civilizations of which little is known, such as the Etruscans.

Visiting these archaeological areas is totally free and can be done only by hiking. Among the most interesting paths, both from a naturalistic and archaeological point of view, are:

  • the one that goes from the village of Mazzano Romano to Calcata, the village of artists and hippies.

  • The path from the Etruscan Necropolis of Cerveteri to the village of Castel Giuliano

  • The ancient Amerina road from Nepi to Amelia

Another ideal activity to do in spring in this region is bathing in thermal baths. Around the city of Viterbo, which is the largest city in Tuscia, many thermal springs gush forth. Some thermal baths have free admission, such as Bullicame and Piscine Carletti. Other thermal baths are accessed by paying an entrance fee that can range from €10 at Terme dei Papi to €45 at the exclusive Spa Salus Terme.
After tiring yourself out by hiking and relaxing with a thermal bath, treat yourself to typical dishes. Highlights of the region's cuisine include handmade pastas, bitter vegetables such as broccolini and chicory, porcini mushrooms, and pecorino cheese.

LAKE COMO

by Bronwyn from Bronwyn town send

As northern Italy emerges from a crisp winter, April is a great time to visit Lake Como. Beating the rush of the summer crowds, the colourful lakeside villages wake from a winter slumber, making for a pleasant stay.

Visiting Lake Como in April graces guests with blooms of azaleas, wisteria, and camellias. Colourfully adorning balconies and wrought-iron arches, the flora displays are a highly prized sight throughout the spring. A short walk from Hotel Tremezzo, you’ll find the most spectacular display of wisteria-like waterfalls of lilac by the lake's edge. This is a must-see during the peak wisteria bloom in mid-late April, as are the gardens of nearby Villa Carlotta.

You can visit as a day trip from Milan, but to fully explore everything on the shores of this charming region, I’d recommend following a three-day itinerary of Lake Como. Once known as the holiday hotspot of the Romans, the Y-shaped lake is peppered with brightly painted villages perched on the hillsides.

April is the start of the tourist season in Lake Como as temperatures begin to warm and days grow longer. You can expect temperatures to range from highs of 16-20c by the end of the month, and 13 hours of daylight - giving you great conditions to explore.

Bellagio is known as the Jewel of Lake Como and the best place to base yourself. Offering spectacular views across the lake and to nearby villages Varenna and Menaggio, the hilly town is full of narrow streets lined with boutiques and typical Italian eateries and wine bars.

The central lake villages are the most popular and easily navigated by the ferry service. Purchase a day pass for 15 euros for unlimited trips between the central lake route. The best way to see the lake is to enter from one town, such as Como, and exit from another like Varenna, which both have train stations for services connecting to Milan.

ALGARVE

by Abbey from Abbey Road

One of the very best holiday destinations for April is the Algarve region of Portugal. April in the Algarve is less rainy than other spring months. The beautiful greenery and flowers are coming back to life and you can feel the excitement in the air for the travel season to start up again. The weather in April is usually around 18 - 25°C (65 - 77° F) during the day. You should still plan to pack a light windbreaker or jacket for the nighttime. The Algarve beaches are what attract almost 3 million visitors a year, but visiting in April will be much less crowded than the popular summer months.

The water will still be a little too cold for swimming, but the Algarve beaches are open and ready for you to soak in the sun. If you like a more adventurous holiday you will find shacks on the beach ready to rent you sup and kayaking or book yourself a surf lesson at Gale Beach in Albufeira. They will provide you with a wetsuit and gentle waves to learn on.

Another reason to visit the Algarve in April is for the many events happening. You can enjoy the Festival of International Music which runs from late March to the end of May. Shows are spread across the region in Faro, Tavria, Silves, and many more of the popular towns in the Algarve.

Two other popular festivals take place in the seaside town of Albufeira. One is the sand sculpting competition where artists create stunning masterpieces in the sand. And the other is a big market festival known as Festival Al-Buhera. Picture a big bazaar in the middle of the town square. You can walk around and grab all your handmade Portugal souvenirs and purchase food from vendors. Keep an eye out for cork products it is a specialty in the Algarve. April is the perfect time to visit the Algarve it is the sunniest place in Portugal!

MADEIRA

by Alexandra from East Coast Contessa

Known as the "Hawaii of Europe," the Portuguese sub-tropical archipelago of Madeira is a magical place to visit year-round. With more than nine hours of sunshine per day, pleasant temperatures, and rich flora and fauna, it's especially remarkable during the month of April.

There's plenty to do and see across the autonomous region made up of two inhabited islands: Madeira Island and Porto Santo. From strolling the calçada paved streets of the capital city, Funchal, to enjoying the island's natural beauty on a Levada walk, Madeira comes alive in the spring.

Some must-do springtime activities include:

  1. Riding a cable car up to the Monte Palace Gardens. Monte is a multi-level garden full of sculptures, art, a mineral museum, and many exotic trees and flowers. Be sure to take a toboggan run in a Monte wicker basket on the way down!

  2. Taking a dip in the natural swimming pool of Porto Moniz. These scenic pools are formed by volcanic rocks and are a great place to take a refreshing swim.

  3. Shopping for native fruits at the Mercado dos Lavradores. This beautiful multi-level farmers market sells fresh produce, fish, flowers, jewelry, accessories, and clothing items.

  4. Celebrating the rebirth of nature at the annual Madeira Flower Festival which runs April 27 to May 21, 2023.

In regards to the weather, expect mild temperatures during the day and cooler temperatures at night. The average daily high is 20 C while the average low is around 15 C. Bring a light jacket or windbreaker especially if you plan to go dolphin or whale watching off the coast (which you should!). Many species of whales arrive in the waters including Bryde's whales, Atlantic spotted dolphins, Fin Whales, Minke Whales, and Sei Whales.

Ireland

by Kelie at Vacations planned

There are many things travelers can do in Ireland for their holidays in April. A big one is to enjoy the Easter celebrations that abound throughout the island. Ireland is a predominantly Catholic country, and Easter Sunday is a major religious holiday. Many churches offer special services, and attending Mass is a great way to experience Irish culture and traditions. Even if you’re not Catholic, you are welcome to observe (not to mention that there are some just absolutely stunning churches throughout Ireland). But if you don’t feel like partaking in a religious tradition, there are also other celebrations for Easter. Many towns throughout will have some sort of procession during that weekend, if not on Easter Sunday specifically. You’ll also find fairs and horse races around that time as well. In towns like Killarney, hotels will offer special Easter dinners for the holiday. And you’ll often find children’s Easter workshops and Easter egg hunts as well. This too is the time of year when the Irish commemorate the Easter Rising of 1916, which was a pivotal moment in Irish history. Some towns will host parades, reenactments, and other events to mark the occasion. Ireland is also known for its lively traditional music scene, and you can find sessions in pubs and music venues all over the country. Many musicians also perform at festivals and other events around Easter time. Some festivals of note are the Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival in Belfast, the New Music Festival in Dublin, and the Galway Theatre Festival (most of these happening in mid to late April). April is a good time of year to visit Ireland. The weather is starting to warm up. And while there is always a chance of rain in Ireland, you’re likely to get some beautiful sunshine as well. And the spring flowers that pop up are boundless and so beautiful! Definitely make sure you reserve some time to get out in nature and soak it all up.

RING OF KERRY

by Emer and Nils from Let’s Go Ireland

The Ring of Kerry in the south of Ireland is one of the country's top attractions.

Stunning coastal and mountain scenery awaits at every turn along the Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry. Each year many tourists drive or even cycle the Ring of Kerry. As the main tourist season starts later in the year, April is a great time to explore the scenic route. The diverse looped route starts and ends in Killarney and includes many unique highlights.

Killarney National Park, the charming town of Kenmare, as well as numerous stunning beaches, such as Rossbeigh Beach, and ancient forts, are all stops along the way. Waterville captured the heart of Charlie Chaplin. He, along with his family, spent several holidays in the small seaside town.

Skellig Michael, the UNESCO World Heritage Site and Star Wars filming location lies 12 km off the coast. It can be reached by ferry boat departing from Portmagee. The Kerry Cliffs are also en route. Many say they rival the impressive Cliffs of Moher.

Some of the first evidence of creatures walking on land is found on the nearby Valentia Island. These tetrapod trackway footprints are over 365 million years old. While there is much to see during the day, the Ring of Kerry does not disappoint at night either. This remote location is also rated highly for the clarity of the night Skies. The Kerry Dark Sky Reserve attracts visitors due to its remote location with little light pollution.

The weather in Ireland in April can be a bit mixed and unpredictable. At this time of year, the West Coast tends to get frequent showers, so raincoats or waterproof gear are essential. Temperatures can still be a little cool and sometimes a bit windy.  The best chance for good weather is probably towards the end of the month.

WICKLOW

Contributed by Amber from Amber Everywhere

Located about an hour south of Dublin is the rural Irish county of Wicklow, home to the mystic Wicklow Mountains. April is the time of year when the area starts to shake off its winter slumber and flowers start to bloom everywhere you look. Perhaps the most famous of these flowers are the bluebells, which start to coat the grassy areas in late April.

Although Irish weather is typically mild, the humidity and wind can leave you feeling a bit chillier than the average highs of 52°F (11°C) and lows of 41°F (5°C) would suggest. Bring a warm coat and rain gear to be able to best enjoy your time outside.

Wicklow is perfect for adventurous travelers who enjoy hiking and exploring the outdoors. If you only have a few days, there are plenty of day hikes through the Wicklow Mountains that offer stunning views and fabulous scenery. Those on a longer trip can consider hiking the Wicklow Way, a thru-hike complete with trailside B&Bs and camping shelters for those who prefer to stay outdoors.

Wicklow is probably most famous for Glendalough, an alpine lake that is nestled into the Wicklow Mountains. Adjacent to the lake is a set of monastic ruins, which contains a de-roofed cathedral, funerary stones, and a stone round tower. There’s a hike that goes around Glendalough, the Spinc Trail, that is about 6 miles long and popular with tourists and locals alike.

The county of Wicklow also overlooks the Irish Sea and contains a stretch of coastline. During April, the cliff walk from Bray to Greystones offers views of the seaside and wildflowers. Once you’ve completed the cliff walk in one direction, you can either walk back or hop a quick train ride back to your rental car.

When visiting Wicklow, choose a hotel near Glendalough for the most central options. There are charming rentals in the area for all types of travelers, from small B&Bs to vacation rentals to hostels.

DUBLIN

by Adam, Owner + Writer of the Where In Dublin Travel Blog

A list of April holiday destinations wouldn't be complete without the good old Irish capital of Dublin. Famed for its bustling bar scene, fantastic walking tours, friendly people and interesting history that has shaped the city into what it is today.

One of the best times you can visit Dublin is in April. Slowly but surely, the weather picks up in Dublin. You might get a shower here or there, but generally, it will be fine; just make sure to bring a jacket with you. While the temperatures might not be hitting the 20s, the crowds tend to avoid the city centre because it's not a popular time to travel, giving you access to the attractions you've dreamt about, like the Guinness Storehouse, without worrying about availability. With low crowds means the prices of accommodation drop and that's what you want in an expensive city like Dublin. You'll have so much more variety to choose from whether you're into fancy hotels with swimming pools or you just want a cheap apartment to rest your head for the night.

If you're a history buff, you'll love the 1916 commemoration event. On April 24th, 1916, the Irish Citizen Army and the Irish Volunteers sacrificed their lives and fought back against the British who were occupying the country at the time. This is a special day in many Irish people's hearts, and various parades and celebrations occur around the city centre, one of the more notable ones being outside the GPO, where the rising took place. Maybe history isn't your thing, and you prefer to stretch your legs; if so, enter yourself into the Great Ireland Run, which takes place on April 16th, 2023, in Phoenix Park. It's a 10-kilometre run, and all are welcome; just make sure you book your place online beforehand.

Malta

By Alex Trembath, Career Gappers

The Mediterranean island nation of Malta is beautiful to visit at any time of the year, but April is a particular sweet spot for many reasons.

Firstly, the climate in April is perfect for experiencing Malta’s spectacular outdoors. The temperature reaches highs of around 20°C, which is just right for sightseeing without getting too hot. It’s a lovely time to see coastal wonders like the Blue Grotto and the Azure Window Ruins, which are essential to include in your Malta itinerary.

While the weather is lovely, April is still low season, so there aren’t too many tourists around the main attractions. This means you will spend less time queuing when exploring the sandstone churches and museums of Valletta, or the old walled city of Mdina.

As the weather gets warmer, so does the sea, and so April is when the scuba diving season really gets going in Malta. There is an incredible array of marine life to see around the islands, as well as a scattering of historic shipwrecks from the 20th-century world wars. This is a brilliant time to try diving for the first time, as group sizes are likely to be smaller.

Malta is also cheaper to explore in April. Winter fares still apply on the public bus system, which is a convenient way to get around. Visiting Malta in April gives you the opportunity to experience seasonal celebrations. When Easter falls in April – which is more often than not – you can partake in local traditions, with towns and villages around the islands holding pageants and processions. Many Maltese restaurants serve traditional foods, such as lamb dinners and figolli Easter cakes.

April culminates in spectacular style with the Malta International Fireworks Festival, which takes place over several days. During this time you can see competing colourful fireworks displays in various locations around the main island.

PRAGUE

by Veronika from Travel Geekery

Visiting Prague in April means experiencing a full-on Prague spring. Everything’s starting to turn green again and the city has long woken up from the winter slumber. As Easter usually falls on April, it’s also the time of year when Prague gets filled with Easter markets. You can find them at the Old Town Square, at Wenceslas Square, and often even within the Prague Castle complex.

You can expect traditional handicrafts including hand-painted Easter eggs, as well as plenty to eat - sausages, ham, and the infamous chimney cake Trdlo, which is not typical Czech at all, but still delicious.

On the last day of April, there can be a witch burning in preparation for spring. It entails a small evening parade with a paper witch being carried and then burned. Some Prague neighborhoods organize an events for families. The most central one for anybody to visit is usually on Kampa island from 6 pm.

Weather permitting, Prague parks offer a beautiful green getaway within the city perimeter. You can head to Riegrovy Sady for a pretty faraway view of Prague Castle, to Letná Park at sunset o’clock, and to Stromovka Park to enjoy tall trees and a pond. Prague Castle has several gardens to hang around and even a moat. While the Stag Moat is more on the wild side, the South Gardens, as well as the Royal Garden, are meticulously trimmed to the English style of parks.

If you get lucky, the weather will be nicely warm and you’ll barely need a coat. To play it safe, expect colder mornings and evenings, and possibly some rain too. The temperature averages between 7°C (45°F) and 17°Cso it’s quite widespread.

Overall, April is a great time to visit Prague. The summer crowds have not arrived yet and apart from a usual influx of visitors on the Easter break, the city is still not too crowded yet.

Norway

BERGEN

by Astrid from Seek Scandinavia

Bergen, Norway truly comes alive in April, as the days grow longer and the weather begins to warm up.

As the gateway to Western Norway's majestic fjords, the city boasts a stunning natural landscape that will leave you in awe. It's honestly one of a kind, with April being the perfect time to see some of the best of what Mother Nature has to offer in Scandinavia - without the hordes of tourists that come in summer.

I'd recommend taking the time to explore the world-renowned Sognefjorden or opt for a half-day cruise up fjords such as Osterfjorden and Nærøyfjorden, all within easy reach from Bergen's city center. The city itself has plenty to offer though as well, with its colorful wooden houses and crooked, cobbled streets that will transport you back in time. Don't miss the opportunity to take the Fløibanen railway line up the Fløyen mountain for some of the best views of the city.

And once you venture beyond the viewing platform there, you'll quickly discover the true power and presence of Norway's raw, natural wilderness. With just a few minutes journey from Bergen's city center, you can spend hours hiking through unspoiled forests and picturesque landscapes, with the sea of crisp green leaves really starting to emerge in April.

The weather in April is also perfect for exploring the city and its surroundings. With temperatures ranging within an average of 3°C to 9°C (37°F to 48°F) and less rain generally than in the winter months, you'll have the chance to fully immerse yourself in Bergen without being hindered by bad weather.

That's not to say that you shouldn't bring a good coat. But as the Norwegians love to say: “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing!”

UNESCO RHINE RIVER GORGE

By Morgan Fielder, creator of Crave the Planet

Just a short drive or train from Frankfurt Germany lies the Upper Middle Rhine River Gorge UNESCO World Heritage Site that is perfect for a Spring getaway for history, hiking and Nature lovers. In April it’s filled with warm temperatures around 15-16 degrees, sun and massive amounts of blossoming pear and apple trees nestled between the over 40 medieval and gothic castles or castle ruins.

They form an impressive line of imagination along the steep river gorge formed by the romantic Rhine River, a place known for being the inspiration for great artists like William Turner and an easy and delightful place to walk and explore both history and Nature.

One of the top castles to visit for an interactive experience and a lovely 4-star hotel stay is Burg Schönberg.  It lives up to its name meaning “beautiful castle” and is the perfect place to sit and savor a local Riesling after hiking along the left bank of the Rhine river, taking a hop-on, hop-off boat cruise, or at the end of a bike tour along the rivers’ edge. Built-in 966, this medieval castle sits atop a cone-like hill over the town of Oberwesel, Germany, easily accessed by car, train or ferry. Use the climate-friendly train systems and find schedules on the DB Bahn website or app, or the Mittelrheinbahn site. The extensive ferry system also makes it easy to visit by car if you want to cross over the river to visit other castles or wineries.

Plus, April offers milder weather averaging 15-16 degrees for the high and fewer crowds, making it the perfect time to visit this high-density castle region that can book up months in advance. Frankfurt International is the closest airport, but Frankfurt Hahn and Luxembourg airports are less than 1.5 hours away.

Psst: since you could be doing a stop in Frankfurt, don’t forget to check BRB guide!

LUGANO

Written by Zoe from Together In Switzerland

For a pretty spring destination for April, consider planning a few days in Lugano, Switzerland. It's an easy-to-reach location with a direct train from either Zurich Switzerland or Milan Italy, with Malpensa as the easiest airport.

Springtime in Lugano during April is perfect for those wanting to already soak in some warm sunshine with views of mountains and crystal-clear lakes. A sunny walk along the promenade of Lake Lugano is a must. With April warm enough (average 17°c) to sit in a local park, such as Parco Ciani, for a picnic, with a book or to simply relax with the sounds of birds. You'll even be able to enjoy fresh Italian ice cream at the local kiosk.

For something active, April is great for visiting Lugano as most attractions are open for the season. For example, all local funiculars are open in Ticino for the season, so you can head up to the viewpoints and hike from the peaks such as Monte Bre, Monte San Salvatore, Monte Tamaro and more.

For events in April, Lugano is very popular for Easter. The Easter weekend usually has a busy market throughout the city starting at Piazza della Riforma. The market often sells local delicates and has live music and plenty of fun games for those with young family members. All restaurants provide outdoor seating by April too, with sunshine during the day and blankets for a cozy drink or dinner by night. A personal recommendation is to visit the restaurant Spaghetti Pomodoro - their freshly baked pizzas and pastas are the most delicious!

Overall Lugano is special for those visiting in April as it's the time when all local botanical gardens come back to life with their newest flowers. The most popular flower in Ticino is the camellia flower. If Spring is your favourite season, Lugano Switzerland is a must

ISTANBUl

by Sasha from Mog and Dog travels

With its confluence of cultures, rich history and incredible food scene, the lively city of Istanbul is a gorgeous place to visit at any time of year and is an essential stop on any Turkey itinerary. Travellers who visit in April however, are in for a special treat as it is during this month that Istanbul literally begins to bloom with multicoloured tulips.

Istanbul’s Tulip Festival begins on the 1st of April and visitors to the city will be treated to the sight of tulips flowering all around. You’ll see them in Istanbul’s many parks and groves and even at central reservations on busy roads!

Although Holland has become synonymous with tulips, these stunning flowers are native to Turkey and Central Asia (the tulip is actually Turkey’s national flower) and were sold to Europe by the Ottoman Empire.

Over 30 million tulips have been planted for the Istanbul Tulip Festival in previous years. For the most breathtaking displays, head to Emirgan Park, the primary location for this spring festival. Here you’ll enjoy the sight of tulips planted in rivers and flowing under bridges, red and white tulips in the shape of the Turkish flag and many other designs and patterns. The festival isn’t just about the flowers though: there is also live music, traditional arts workshops and more inside the park.

Sultanahmet Square, which is home to several of Istanbul’s major tourist attractions, is another top spot to visit during the festival and is famous for its traditional Turkish carpet made entirely out of tulips!

Istanbul in April is gorgeous: warm and sunny during the day (around 16°C - 18°C) and perfect for walking around and just exploring the city or jumping on a ferry to the magical Princes’ Islands. At nighttime the temperature is much cooler - around 8°C, so make sure you bring a sweater and a jacket!

April is still the low season in Istanbul so after getting your fill of the flowers you can explore popular tourist sites like the Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern and Hagia Sophia with fewer crowds.

FES

Submitted by Erin from Pina Travels

Fes, Morocco is home to the world’s largest surviving medieval city and urban car-free zone. It’s the perfect destination in April because, during spring, the weather in Morocco is pleasantly warm, with temperatures averaging around 22 degrees Celsius. At other times of the year, it can be either quite cool or very hot.

Fes was originally built by the first Muslim Dynasty, the Idrissids. It’s believed that it started out as a town, originally founded in 789. Over the centuries, Fes faced instability and threats of invasion. To help protect the growing city, the old medina was created as a labyrinth of winding alleyways and roads. Today, the old medina is still only accessible on foot.

Visiting Fes in April is the perfect time to explore the old medina comfortably. You can go wandering through the souks, shopping for things to bring home with you. Be sure to stop by one of the city’s old tanneries. Chouara Tannery is the largest tannery in Fes and one of the oldest. There, you can learn about the practice of manually processing animal hide. Chouara Tannery has been doing this for about 900 years!

Another must-see is Dar Batha. This building was originally a palace but was converted into a museum. It’s now a repository for artifacts from the old city and Fes’s ruined buildings. There, you can admire jewelry, old mosaics, carpets, ceramics, and other handicrafts.

If you visit Fes in April, be sure to book a riad for your accommodation. A riad is a traditional Moroccan home that has several floors

MARRAKECH

by Joanna The World in My Pocket

Marrakech is a great place to visit in April. The weather is not yet that hot, as in the summer months when the heat is unbearable. In April, Marrakech sees an average of 25 degrees Celsius, allowing you to visit all the sights without any issues. In fact, most people recommend visiting Marrakech either in April or in October, to avoid the extreme temperatures.

Marrakech is a great city to visit for a long weekend or an extended holiday. There are plenty of things to do in Marrakech, from visiting the most popular sites to exploring the hidden corners of the city. One of the main sites in Marrakech is the Majorelle Gardens, made famous by Yves Saint Laurent who has a museum on the premises showcasing the influences of the designer and his works. Another great place to visit is the Bahia Palace, which has beautifully decorated rooms with mosaics on the walls and intricate carvings on the ceiling and an intimate indoor courtyard with lush vegetation and water features. The main square in Marrakech is a vibrating place, especially at night, when locals and tourists alike meet to enjoy street goods, games, and music,

There are plenty of unique things to do in Marrakech as well, which will enhance the experience of the trip. One of them is attending a Moroccan storytelling evening where you can learn more about this art that has its roots in the caravans traversing the Sahara Desert. Another great place to visit, to escape the tourist crowds, is the Carpet Museum, Dar Si Said. The building hosting it is a stunning palace with incredible architecture, as well as a pretty interior garden.

KYOTO

Contributed by Jolene from Wanderlust Storytellers

Kyoto in April is a special time for travelers because it marks the start of one of Japan's most popular cherry blossom viewing seasons. The city's numerous parks and temples come alive with an array of delicate pink, white, and purple hues as thousands of trees burst into bloom.

This stunning display of blooming trees attracts locals and visitors from near and far, eager to take in all the beauty Kyoto has to offer. As the first city in Japan to herald the coming of spring, Kyoto boasts some of the most spectacular cherry blossom displays in the world, with over five thousand trees lining its streets and parks.

Tourists and locals alike flock to spots such as Maruyama Park and Philosopher's Walk to get a glimpse of these ethereal blossoms. From late March through April, visitors can take part in hanami - traditional flower viewing parties where they can picnic beneath the trees while marvelling at the beauty that nature has created. For those looking for a unique experience, nighttime illuminations bring a magical touch to this spectacular setting.

3 Days in Kyoto is the perfect amount of time to enjoy the cherry blossoms and see some of the other popular sights:

  • Exploring the Ancient Temples and Shrines of Kyoto

  • Visiting the Imperial Palace

  • Discovering Geisha Culture in Gion

  • Exploring Arashiyama Bamboo Grove and Tenryuji Temple

  • Taking a Food Tour to Sample Authentic Japanese Cuisine from Kyoto

The weather in Kyoto in April is generally mild, with temperatures ranging from 12°C to 18°C. Although temperature variations can occur, rain showers are unlikely and the climate is generally sunny and pleasant during this time of year.  However, it is recommended to take some warm clothes as the nights can get cool.

Palawan

by Lena from Not another Packpaker

Palawan in the Philippines is a true paradise on earth. Imagine an island with white beaches covered in coconut palm trees, clear water, limestone cliffs, and hidden waterfalls in the jungle. Sounds like the place for a perfect holiday, right?

If you’re planning a trip in April, you’re in luck: It’s the last month of the dry season in the Philippines and the perfect time to travel to Palawan. The waterfalls may not be as big as at the beginning of the dry season, but the weather is hot and humid.

Plus, Palawan is more than 400 kilometres long, so there are plenty of things to do and see on the island. Some highlights in Palawan include island hopping in El Nido, exploring the small fishing village of Port Barton, and taking a boat tour through the Underground River in Sabang. If you’re up for an adventure, you can also take a three-day boat trip from El Nido to the neighboring island of Coron and check out beautiful and secluded islands along the way.

To get to Palawan, you can fly into several airports. If you have at least a couple of weeks on the island, I recommend flying into the capital Puerto Princesa and slowly making your way north to El Nido. This way, you can hit up places like Port Barton and Sabang along the way.

However, if you want to spend the majority of your time in El Nido and Coron, you can fly into Lio Airport, which is only 15 kilometres outside of El Nido Town. Then, you can explore the small-town island life, before taking a boat trip to Coron, from where you can fly out.

Whatever way you choose, you’re guaranteed to have an amazing holiday in Palawan. After all, it has been named to be “the most beautiful island in the world” numerous times!

Sri Lanka

By Jennifer Femrite of Seeking Stamps

If you are looking for the best international travel destination in April, consider a visit to the teardrop island of Sri Lanka. This country offers lush tea fields, pristine beaches, ancient temples, and thrilling animal safaris. It is particularly pleasant in April because of its beautiful weather and unique religious celebrations.

April is a peak travel month in Sri Lanka. In the period between the two monsoon seasons, the weather is hot and dry. Thus, it’s perfect if you plan to soak up the sunshine on one of Sri Lanka’s gorgeous beaches or spend time sightseeing. You will still have to escape the midday heat and humidity, but it beats getting stuck in one of Sri Lanka’s rainy monsoons.

Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle offers a variety of temples and cultural attractions. Climb to the top of Sigiriya “Lion’s” Rock or make the pilgrimage to Adam’s Peak. Also, visit Dambulla Rock Cave Temple, the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, or the ancient city of Polonnaruwa. Next, spend the afternoon sipping famous Ceylon tea.

One of the best things to do in Sri Lanka is an elephant safari. Elephant herds migrate year-round in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. They roam Hurulu Eco Park, Kaudulla and Minneriya National Parks. Yet, during the month of April, large herds amass. This makes for adrenaline-pumping animal encounters and gorgeous photos of the verdant landscape.

Last, but not least, visit Sri Lanka in April to witness the Sinhalese New Year. This is a major holiday and cultural celebration for the Sri Lankan people. Feel the pulse of the Rabana drum, sample local delicacies, and watch locals ring in the new year with impressive fireworks displays.

As you can see, visiting Sri Lanka in April is one of the best times to visit. Enjoy the glorious weather, historic attractions and cultural celebrations during April in Sri Lanka.

Lombok

by Victoria author of Guide Your Travel.

Visiting Lombok in April is a great idea for those who enjoy warm weather and outdoor activities. April falls during the beginning of the dry season in Lombok, making it an ideal time to explore the island's stunning landscapes and beaches. The weather will be sunny and mostly dry, although you might get the occasional rain since April lies between the dry and wet seasons. Luckily, that also means you won’t have to worry about the tourist crowds, which won’t arrive until late May or June.

One of the top attractions in Lombok is Mount Rinjani, an active volcano that offers breathtaking views from its summit. April is a popular time to hike to the top of the volcano, as the weather is dry and the trails are less crowded.

In addition to hiking, visitors can enjoy a range of outdoor activities such as surfing, snorkeling, and diving. Lombok's pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters make it a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. You’ll love Kuta, a small town located in the south of the island.

The Gili Islands are another highlight located northwest of Lombok, right by the coast. These small islands are known for their green sea turtle population and since there are no cars or motorized vehicles allowed, you can rent bikes and cycle around. The beaches here are incredible and you’ll love snorkelling and swimming.

April is also a great time to experience Lombok's cultural heritage. The island is home to several traditional villages where visitors can learn about local customs and crafts, such as weaving and pottery. Overall, visiting Lombok in April offers a perfect combination of warm weather, outdoor activities, and cultural experiences, making it an excellent destination for those looking for an adventurous and memorable vacation.

Meghalaya

by Joydeep Phukan, Blogger at The Gypsy Chiring

Meghalaya is a state in the northeastern region of India. The name “Meghalaya” translates to the Abode of Clouds. Khasi, Jaintia, and Garos are the three main ethnic groups living in Meghalaya. Meghalaya is one of the best holiday destinations in Northeast India. Blessed by topography and weather, it is known for innumerable waterfalls, hidden caves, adventure activities, and cultural diversity.

Mawsynram, the wettest place on earth, is in Meghalaya. Have you heard of bridges made of living roots? The Khasi and Jaintia ethnic group builds bridges from the roots of rubber trees - Ficus elastica. It is a perfect example of how culture and nature can be beneficial to each other. There are many such living root bridges in the Jaintia Hills and East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya. The Double Decker Living Root Bridge and the Mawlynnong Root Bridge are two of the most popular root bridges.

The best time to visit Meghalaya is in the post-monsoon months i.e. from September to April. In April, the weather will be a mixture of rain, clear skies, and greener hills. Adventure activities such as caving in Cherrapunji (Sohra), river canyoning in Mawlyngbna, and hiking to the Phe Phe Falls are the best before monsoon. The trek to the Nongriat Village for the Double Decker Living Root Bridge will introduce you to hanging bridges, transparent waters, and humongous waterfalls if it rains. If you plan your trip to Meghalaya, Phe Phe Falls is a must-visit; it doesn’t dry up, unlike other waterfalls.

Besides the natural attractions, Meghalaya is also known for its vibrant cultural festivals. Every year in April, the Shad Suk Mynsiem - an agrarian festival is celebrated by the Khasis to thank their creator for the blessings and good harvest. Get a chance to experience the cultural dance and folk music of the Khasis during the Shad Suk Mynsiem festival.

Uzbekistan

By Ellis from Backpack Adventures

Uzbekistan is one of the most upcoming destinations in Asia. This country is full of history, culture and nature. April is one of the best times to visit the country.

The landscapes of Uzbekistan come to life in spring with beautiful flowers, greenery, and blossoming trees. In the countryside, you can witness almond and apricot trees in bloom and the parks of the cities are adorned with colorful flowers.

April is also the time for the Nowruz festival. The Persian New Year is celebrated with traditional food, music, and dance. There is a festive atmosphere in the country as temperatures are getting milder and more pleasant after the cold winter. The average temperatures range between 12°C to 22°C.

The weather in April is perfect for exploring the country. Uzbekistan was once an important part of the famous Silk Road and has a rich cultural heritage that is still visible in the beautiful Islamic architecture and historic sites.

Uzbekistan’s major cities like Samarkand, Khiva and Bukhara were multicultural melting pots where people from all over the world exchanged goods, ideas and philosophies. They are the country’s most beautiful cities with lots of ancient mosques, madrassas, hammams and caravanserais. The bustling bazaars are a journey back in time.

Outside of the cities, you will find both desert and green rolling hills. One area that is particularly beautiful in April is the lush Fergana Valley with its traditional villages famous for their handicrafts. You can also go hiking in the Chimgan mountains.

April is a shoulder season, which means that there are fewer tourists. This means you can explore the cities and attractions without the crowds, and enjoy a more peaceful and relaxed experience.

SEOUL

Submitted by Chloe of Chloe’s Travelogue

April is a lovely time to visit Seoul. As the temperature rises from its bone-chilly winter months, it is a pleasant time to visit the city. The average temperatures in April range from 7℃ to 18℃. You will enjoy many sunny days with a low chance of rain, making April one of the most popular months to visit Korea.

April is also the best time to catch fickle spring blossoms, which may only last a week or two. It is difficult to predict a weather-dependent full blossom season. However, at any time of the month, you will enjoy colorful spring flowers, such as cherry blossoms, tulips, azaleas, and canola flowers, that blossom at different timing.

Seoul is a huge metropolitan city with many districts to explore and many things to do. And you will need to be strategic in planning your Seoul itinerary. With the pleasant weather, it is safe to plan many outdoor activities in April.

The Palaces in Seoul change their scenery by season. If you rent a hanbok, your admission is free, and you can take Instagram-worthy photos with traditional architecture filled with flowers as a backdrop. Another excellent place boasting gorgeous spring scenery is Lotte World Tower. The view from the tallest building in Korea is impressive any time of the year. But you can only see Seokchon Lake surrounded by pink cherry blossoms in April.

Culinary travelers might rejoice for seasonal vegetables and fruits. Some restaurants may feature special seasonal menus, such as soybean stew and salads with dalrae (wild rocambole) or nangee (sheperd’s purse). Strawberries are the freshest and sweetest. So be sure to try these seasonally limited products.

DUBAI ISLANDS

by Ossama from Awesome Traveler

Dubai Islands of the world is a man-made isle and a human-created paradise. It is located toward the eastern part of the Arabian Peninsula and in the Persian Gulf. I am sure the 300 miles of the island would blow your mind away. By now, you might be wondering what the island of the world is all about. Well, it is 300 islands created artificially by sand that look and shape like all countries in the world.

The best time to visit the island of the world is during April because the weather is warm and humid. You can enjoy 10 hours of sunshine as summer arrives. Therefore, it is a good time to enjoy watersports and the summer activities that it has to offer. You can enjoy soaking yourself at the beach and have a sun bath at the Lebanon island’s beach. It is also a great time to swim or enjoy banana boating, parasailing, playing volleyball and other water activities.

You can book a day tour of the island either online or from travel agencies in Dubai. It costs about $81.61 per adult over 12 years old. The tour would cover Lebanon island because it is the only functional island among them all. The departure is from the Jumeirah Fishing Harbour. The tour takes around 3 hours, but it could take more if you want to book some water sports activities.

I would recommend arriving a few hours earlier to explore the Jumeirah and walk around the Jumeirah Emirates Towers. Maybe, you should also plan to dine at the towers or book a room at their luxurious hotel. You can also enjoy the nightlife venues after finishing the tour. Some people prefer to visit the Jumeirah beach to do some water sports activities, such as snorkelling and scuba diving. You can discover its marine habitats and the underwater world with this thrilling and exciting adventure.

Vietnam

Angela from where Angie wanders

When it comes to choosing a destination to visit in April, Vietnam gets my vote. This beautiful country in Southeast Asia has so much to explore, and in April, even though the spring season is ending, the weather is fine, the crowds are fewer, and flight prices to Vietnam are lower, meaning it's a great time to travel.

In April, expect long, warm days where you can make the most of your time outdoors or around the pool. Evenings are cooler, a reprieve from the heat of the day. Yes, it may be slightly more humid than earlier in the year, but nothing you can't handle.

From North to Central Vietnam, only a few showers will occur in April, and visitors can enjoy city tours, boat trips, and hiking trails. Further to the South, the heat will be stronger, but lazing on the golden beaches and swimming in the crystal waters will help you cool down.

April is an excellent month for sightseeing. Cruise the waters of Bai Tu Long Bay and Halong Bay and experience clear blue skies, beautiful landscapes, and stunning sunsets.

See the ancient grandeur of Hue's Royal Tombs and learn about Vietnam's rich history. And experience the buzz of life in the city of Hanoi or the Unesco centre of Hoi An, the traveller's favourite; it's all possible in April.

This month is also when Vietnam celebrates some of its religious and military festivals, so you may find yourself participating in one of those whether you intend to or not! The Lantern Festival in Hoi An is a famous festival you can see in April, as is the patriotic Reunification Day held annually in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City on 30th April.

Thailand

by Catherine Xu from Nomadicated

April is a fantastic time to visit Thailand, and there's one event in particular that makes it an unmissable destination: Songkran. This annual festival, which takes place from April 13th to 15th, is a celebration to signify the beginning of the Buddhist New Year.

Originally, this Water Splashing Festival involved bathing Buddha images and sprinkling water over the hands of monks and elders. But over the years, it is now celebrated by parades, street parties, and its all-out water war where people get soaked by high-powered water guns.

Nowhere is this more true than in Chiang Mai, where Songkran is taken to epic proportions. The city transforms into a giant water park, with locals and tourists alike taking to the streets armed with water guns and buckets of water. It's an unforgettable experience that you won't find anywhere else in the world.

But Songkran isn't the only reason to visit Thailand in April. While the north may be experiencing the air pollution of the burning season, escape the muggy heat on southern Thailand's perfect beach weather with sunny skies and warm temperatures. Take advantage of this by exploring some of Thailand's most stunning beaches, such as the limestone karsts of Krabi or the immaculate sands on Koh Phangan.

Beyond the beachfront paradises and vibrant festivals of Thailand - there are also plenty of cultures to explore. Jump from the Grand Palace of Bangkok to Ayutthaya's UNESCO historical park. Once the sun sets, visit some of Thailand's renowned night markets to sample an array of delicious street food!

Overall, thanks to its unique cultural celebrations and beautiful weather, April is truly a magical time to visit Thailand.

KOH TAO

by Leslie from Backpackers Thailand

A diver’s paradise, the island of Koh Tao is one of the best and most affordable Thailand's April holiday destinations, which is easy to reach from Bangkok. With abundant marine life and numerous certified instructors, it's the perfect place to learn the basics – or master the finer details – of scuba diving. April is a perfect time to visit Koh Tao because this is the whale shark spotting season, a time when you have the highest chance to dive and snorkel with this fish.

While there are many dive sites to explore at Koh Tao, the best spots to view the majestic whale sharks are Chumphon Pinnacle, Sail Rock, South West Pinnacle, White Rock, and Shark Island (which is perfect for snorkeling if you don’t dive). These whale sharks are usually seen swimming close to the surface where a diver can easily spot them from afar. Furthermore, you don't have to worry about getting hurt by them because these fish cannot bite humans.

One of other Koh Tao’s greatest attractions during April is the opportunity to witness turtles in their natural habitat. The island is known for the breeding grounds of Hawksbill and Green turtles. Tourists can go out on a boat and have the chance to view turtles while diving and snorkeling.

The weather in April is warm and pleasant, with an average high of 36 degrees Celsius and a low of 28 degrees Celsius. Plus, with reduced rainfall and a water temperature that can exceed 30 degrees Celsius, it is ideal for any visitors looking to enjoy the beach. Unlike the large cities in Thailand, where temperatures are significantly higher at this time of the year, Koh Tao boasts a cooler climate with a sea breeze and occasional tropical showers. This makes it the perfect getaway destination for those looking to beat the heat in style!

Oceania

Fiji

by Catrina of Fiji Itinerary

Fiji is the perfect holiday destination for April! With warm and sunny days, low humidity and temperatures averaging around 28°C, April is the perfect time for exploring all the picturesque islands or simply relaxing by the pool with a cocktail. Whether you’re planning to go to Fiji on your honeymoon, bring your baby on holiday to Fiji, or go by yourself or with your friends - April is a great time to do so. The ocean is a lovely temperature at this time of year so it’s great to go for a swim, snorkel or surf.

April is an ideal time to visit Fiji as you avoid the peak tourist season in Fiji, which runs from July to September. In April the crowds are smaller, and accommodation and flight prices are generally more affordable than during the high season.

The resorts in Fiji are a lot quieter in April and so you can enjoy a much more relaxed holiday experience compared to the peak months when most of them are fully booked with families. You can also take advantage of special deals that many tourism companies offer during this time!

Make sure to go on day trips such as to Tivua Island where you can drink unlimited cocktails on a desert island, as well as Seventh Heaven - a floating pizzeria in the middle of the ocean, and do some wildlife encounters such as swimming with reef sharks! For the ultimate relaxation, head to Malamala Beach Club - the world’s first island beach club and sip cocktails out of coconuts whilst strongly adhering to the Fiji quote that you’ll hear everywhere: no hurry, no worry!

New Zealand

CENTRAL OTAGO

Contributed by Jac from Weekend Path

April is a fantastic time to visit New Zealand. While it might be springtime in the Northern Hemisphere, April coincides with autumn in New Zealand, which sees fewer tourists than the summer and winter months. This means that popular places are less crowded, and prices for accommodation and car rentals tend to be lower than in the busy months of the year.

Autumn in New Zealand—including April—is the perfect time for hiking, sightseeing, and wine tasting. The weather tends to be more settled in autumn than during other times of the year, and you can go hiking without sweltering in summertime heat!

For the best destination in New Zealand in April, head to the South Island’s Central Otago region, which is home to the country’s best fall colors.

Base yourself in Queenstown, which has tons of excellent accommodation options, great places to eat, and so many activities on offer it’s basically impossible to get bored. From Queenstown, you’ll be able to take day trips to some great places in Central Otago, including the scenic drive to Glenorchy, Wanaka, the Gibbston wine region, and the historic town of Arrowtown.

While you’ll spot beautiful fall colors in all of these places, Arrowtown in particular truly comes alive in autumn. The surrounding hills light up in shades of burnt orange, brick red, and golden yellow as the trees change color. It looks like something out of a painting!  Autumn colors in Arrowtown tend to peak around the last week of April, which is also when the Arrowtown Autumn Festival is usually held.

While in Arrowtown, make sure to wander around the cute town and go for an easy hike along the Arrow River trail. Then pop into a cozy pub for a refreshing drink and snack—the Fork and Tap is a great spot for a local craft beer and wood-fired pizza.

SOUTH ISLAND

New Zealand’s South Island is a terrific place to visit during April. With endless winding roads to discover, flanked by spectacular mountain scenery and glacial landscapes, South Island is stunning at any time of the year. But April is particularly special; this is Autumn in New Zealand, and many of these magical terrains become transformed with gold, crimson and amber foliage.

The weather is mild in April, perfect for escaping the Summer crowds before the temperatures drop at the end of the month. The pleasant climate makes April a great time to enjoy hiking or cycling alongside other gentle outdoor activities, and it is the last month of the official ‘Great Walks’ season. In addition, this is shoulder season, so prices are generally lower, and tourist sites are less crowded, too.

In Arrowtown and Central Otago, you can find the best colourful Autumn scenery, with fiery tree-lined roads carving through the epic mountains. Nearby, Glenorchy, Queenstown, Wanaka, and Tekapo are stunning in Autumn, and it’s not too taxing to drive between these different attractions. Alternatively, you’ll find many beautiful things to do in West Coast New Zealand, such as walking upon Franz Josef or Fox Glaciers, visiting the reflective Lake Matheson, or driving along the epic Haast Pass.

April is also the perfect time to visit South Island for foodies and wine lovers, with Marlborough Sounds, Queenstown, and Central Otago all being fabulous places to try the local offerings. In mid-April, don’t miss the Arrowtown Autumn Festival for local festivities and fantastic food.

If it does get a little chilly, take a dip in one of the geothermal hot pools, or take advantage of the quieter shoulder season by exploring one of the epic beaches and the Catlins coastline.

Queenstown

by Michaela from LoveYaGuts

New Zealand has some of the best April holiday destinations if you're looking for a cozy winter getaway.

April marks the very beginning of winter season in New Zealand and is one of the best times to visit Queenstown, as the snow has just started to set in sprinkling the mountain tops in the mornings, but you're unlikely to get snowed in and stuck anywhere while waiting for snow plows to clear the highway.

Queenstown is a small but extremely popular town in New Zealand's south island and boasts some incredible landscape with snowy mountain ranges, beautiful pristine lakes and some incredible food to keep you warm during snowy winter mornings and evenings. Queenstown sits close to various locations where you can go hiking, explore the treacherous valley of Skippers Canyon, experience an intense jet boat ride or enjoy an evening under the stars in a relaxing and private hot tub.

Take a 20-minute drive out of Queenstown heading north and explore the historic village of Arrowtown; founded in the late 1800s by gold miners searching for a better life. The Chinese Settlement in Arrowtown is one of the top tourist attractions in the area and it's free! Explore the old huts built by Chinese immigrants and learn about their dreadful treatment while mining for gold in New Zealand. Arrowtown provides a stunning backdrop for wannabe photographers as the nearby mountain ranges are draped in a curtain of gold and yellow trees.

Queenstown and the surrounding towns from Arrowtown to Cromwell and Wanaka have plenty to offer whether you're travelling with a young family or your significant other. you'll have endless opportunities to explore the landscape whether it's via a steamboat on Lake Wakatipu, or a hike to the Blue Pools in Makarora. The history and beautiful landscape will have you in awe wherever you travel and the mulled wine will keep you coming back for more.

French Polynesia

BORA BORA

by Delilah from Our Travel Mix

There’s no better escape than a holiday to a remote and magical island. Located in the country of French Polynesia, and in the heart of the South Pacific, Bora Bora is the ultimate island destination for travellers looking for a relaxing, yet unique, holiday.  Bora Bora’s jagged, volcanic environment contrasts with its incredibly clear, blue water to ensure no matter where you look, the landscapes are otherworldly and picturesque.

Bora Bora’s high season runs from May to October, and although this is still a fantastic time to visit, the shoulder months are undoubtedly the best time to visit. April is absolutely perfect as you’ll beat the crowds and avoid the wet season.  From May onwards the island fills up quickly with packed beaches and crowds at the core attractions such as Mount Otemanu and Matira Beach.

The dry season begins in April which will offer warm weather (around 31 C) without as much risk of torrential downpours - a legitimate concern when your day consists of lying on beaches. Not to mention the water clarity will be much better during April than during the wet season.

Resorts in Bora Bora tend to be more luxury-oriented with some of the world’s best 5-star resorts and overwater bungalows. The price tags for these are eye wateringly high but the quality exceeds expectations.

It’s not uncommon for accommodation deals and offers to be available when travelling in April so you might be able to grab a 5-star resort at a more affordable price. If you can stretch the budget, you won’t be disappointed with InterContinental Bora Bora Le Moana Resort, however, Maitai Resort is one of the most popular mid-range picks on the island.

WINEGLASS BAY IN TASMANIA

by Linda from Muy Linda Travels

Idyllic Wineglass Bay is known for its natural beauty and is one of the most beautiful beaches in Australia. A jewel on Tasmania’s stunning east coast, the sugar-white sands of Wineglass Bay form a perfect crescent shape. The sea is turquoise and crystal clear with a backdrop of pink granite mountains. Wineglass Bay has a remote location within the Freycinet National Park and the coastal scenery is simply breathtaking.

Outdoor activities like bushwalking, swimming, snorkelling, kayaking and fishing are popular. And within the National Park, there are a wide variety of Australian native animals like wallabies, quolls, possums, echidnas, wombats, black swans, sea eagles, seals, and if you’re lucky, endangered Tasmanian Devils.

Wineglass Bay is one of the top places to visit in Tasmania and a perfect April holiday destination in Australia. The weather is warm and sunny and there are fewer visitors so you can enjoy the natural beauty of the National Park without the summer crowds.

CRADLE MOUNTAIN

Written by Jake from Tribe Holidays

We visited Cradle Mountain in the north-western region of Tasmania in April last year.  It's a fantastic season to visit the region - we were treated to clear blue skies and brisk mornings that transcended into mild if sometimes slightly cool days.  One might easily say this is the perfect condition for hitting the hiking trails, of which you are spoilt for choice in the surrounding Lake St Clair National Park.

From treacherous week-long hikes traversing rocky mountain faces to lengthy low-lying trails, through to grassy hillsides dotted with wombats and enchanted forest walks filled with small mammals, in April this region is a mecca for enjoying the great outdoors and its resident wildlife. And when the night falls, my hot tip is to seek out a prime position in front of the crackle of a rustic fireplace like the cozy communal area at Cradle Mountain Discovery Park, a popular place to recount the day and enjoy a meal and nightcap.

ADELAIDE HILLS

by Natalie & Steve from Curious Campers

The Adelaide Hills are about half an hour from the city of Adelaide in South Australia and they are one of the best April holiday destinations in this part of Australia. A highlight of the Adelaide Hills is the colourful display of autumn leaves which are at their best in April. The English-style village of Stirling and the beautiful Mount Lofty Botanic Gardens are the best places to see the colourful display.

The Adelaide Hills are also a well-known cool climate wine region and the vineyards look spectacular at this time of year as the leaves begin to yellow. There are over 50 wineries dotted throughout the valleys and plains and April is the perfect time to visit some cellar doors to try some Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc. Hahndorf Hill, Bird in Hand and The Lane wineries are all worth a visit. The Vintage Vibes Festival which celebrates the region’s food and wine is in full swing too.

April in the Adelaide Hills is marked by clear skies and cool days. It is a perfect time to try one of the many walking trails through the hills. Cleland and Belair National Parks both offer great bushwalking and plenty of chances to spot wildlife. In April the friendly kangaroos, wallabies and koalas at Cleland Wildlife Park are also much more active and ready to be hand-fed.

The village of Hahndorf is also beautiful in April, its main street lined with colourful autumn leaves. The main street celebrates the town’s German heritage and is full of art and craft shops, galleries, artisan food and plenty of German-style pubs for lunch. April is also the fruit-picking season in the Adelaide Hills. You can go to local orchards to pick your own figs, apples and berries.

BYRON BAY

by Victoria from My Australia Trip

Byron Bay is a popular destination in Australia, and April is an excellent time to visit the coastal town. The weather in Byron Bay during April is typically warm and sunny, making it the perfect time to explore the beaches and outdoor activities.

One of the main attractions in Byron Bay is its beaches. The town is known for its picturesque coastline, which is ideal for swimming, surfing, and sunbathing. Visitors can enjoy the clear blue waters and soft sand at famous beaches such as Main Beach and Wategos Beach.

You have to go camping or even glamping in Byron Bay. There are a variety of campsites available, some even located right on the beach. You’ll love the beauty of the local nature and immerse yourself in it, without sacrificing any comforts when staying in a luxury glamping tent.

April is also the time when the annual Byron Bay Bluesfest takes place. The festival attracts world-class musicians from various genres, including blues, rock, and roots music. The festival has become an institution in Byron Bay, and it's an excellent opportunity to experience great music, food, and culture. Another activity to enjoy in Byron Bay is the Byron Bay Lighthouse walk. The walk offers breathtaking views of the town and the surrounding coastline. Visitors can watch whales, dolphins, and other marine life from the lighthouse, making it a memorable experience.

For those seeking adventure, Byron Bay is an excellent destination for outdoor activities such as kayaking, skydiving, and scuba diving. Visitors can take a guided kayaking tour and explore the nearby coastline or dive into the underwater world at Julian Rocks Marine Reserve.

EAST COAST

by Catrina of 24 Hours Layover

An East Coast of Australia trip is a great destination for an April vacation because of its ideal weather, spectacular scenery and wide range of activities. In Australia, it’s autumn in April and so the weather on the East Coast is typically very pleasant, with sunny days and temperatures ranging from 18°C to 29°C, depending on how far north you are. It’s ideal for outdoor activities like hiking, surfing or exploring the many beautiful beaches.

Australia’s East Coast is home to some of the country's most beautiful natural landscapes such as the Great Barrier Reef, the Daintree Rainforest, The Whitsunday Islands and the white sandy beaches at Jervis Bay. And there are plenty of busy towns and cities on the East Coast to enjoy too, from Cairns to Sydney, as well as Brisbane and The Gold Coast.

In April, the weather is perfect for exploring these stunning areas. April falls outside the peak season for tourism in Australia which means there are generally fewer crowds than during the summer months. This means that you can enjoy the attractions and scenery with fewer people around and often at a cheaper price.

April is also a month that has many special events and activities taking place on Australia’s East Coast. The Byron Bay Bluesfest is one of the country's largest music festivals and takes place over the Easter weekend. This festival attracts top international and Australian artists and draws a diverse and fun-loving crowd. Other events in the region during April include the Sydney Royal Easter Show and the Australian Surf Lifesaving Championships.

Whether you're looking to relax on the beach, explore the natural landscapes, or enjoy some cultural events, the East Coast of Australia has something for everyone.
